I decided to sign up to spokeo however i was dissapointed to find out its "sign up for free and then give us money to use service". I had a very short free list and everyone else i would have to upgrade to a premium membership. Are there any sites like that are actually free, i don't believe in paying for social networking stuff.

Thanks for the list. I browsed through a few and selected Minggl, mainly because it supported the main networks I'm on: Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. And it's got an update blaster that lets you update all your networks with one post, which is a feature I really wanted. Nice that it streams all your contacts' updates in one place too. So far so good. I've yet to explore its other features.

Could you please tell me what it is better that it is a desktop client vs. a web site - i would have thought a web site was a better approach to profile and communications aggregation. thanks!

You should add http://friendsite.com to the list! It's a bit like facebook and myspace (groups and feeds like facebook and customizable profiles and your own url like myspace).

You can also add photos & create photo albums, get your own url, customize your page, create groups and evites, blog, bookmark sites, create opinion polls, send gifts and much more.. best of all, its free!

Thanks for mentioning Fuser in the list. Fuser is different because instead of aggregating profiles, Fuser allows you to view your email and social networking communications in one place. In Fuser, you can view your email in an organized Inbox, along with your Facebook messages and wallposts and Myspace messages, comments and bulletins. You can even read and respond to your Facebook and Myspace communications from within Fuser. We also have the "Fuser Leaderboard" where you can see who talks to you the most. Fuser is driven by its users and is building more functionality every day based on user requests.

We're still in closed Beta, but we'd love for you to check it out. Enter the registration code "FickleMonkey" when registering at Fuser.com. We're looking to improve in any way we can and would love to hear your feedback.

8hands is the only considerable one. Its best feature is the "top friends" list which consists of the 8 people you have communicated with the most. It also shows changes in the list. totally cool.

Spokeo is much more than a reader. In addition to tracking blogs and photos via RSS feeds Spokeo enables you to track video from You Tube. You can also import your buddy list into Spokeo and track your friends across popular social networks such as MySpace and Friendster.

Take the Spokeo Challenge! http://www.spokeo.com/?c=sc1 If you don't love our site we'll pay you $5.00 for your time.

Profilactic supports more sites, is more full-featured (and usable) and doesn't look half bad. Of course, since I am part of the Profilactic team, I may have a bias towards us.

Seriously, though, we will take the Pepsi Challenge against any of the sites on this list. Here are some random tidbits about Profilactic:

1. We support over 60 networks by default; however, you can add an unlimited number of custom sites
2. We aggregate content from you and your friends, not just list your profiles
3. We allow you to save items about you in our Clippings feature
4. We give you options for taking your Profilactic content with you with RSS feeds, badges and a daily e-mail digest of your Friends' activity
5. It is super easy to set up... even a MySpace user can do it.

Check out my Profilactic mashup to see it in action:

The way I see it, Spokeo is a simple feedreader. It seems, whatever it does can be done in Google Reader as well. Am I missing something?
