Sync and Share All Your Online Notes with 3Banana

idea_bulbThe more I pay attention to it, the more I realize that one of the most useful things to have on the Web is a central place for your stuff. We’ve all got favorite web pages, notes we need to take, things we need to do, pictures we download, and so on and so forth. Particularly for the mobile person constantly struck by ideas, capturing them instantly and having one spot to keep and organize them all is critical.

The Web offers a bunch of options for this type of application – personally, I’ve been a fan and user of Evernote for a fairly long time now. Many others use Google Notebook, or any of a number of applications that let you capture and organize everything in your head and your life.

3Banana is another application that’s in essentially the same realm – letting you take, sync, and store all your notes online. It’s got a couple of unique features, though, that make it worth a look even among the more established and popular choices.

The coolness, as I see it, starts from the very beginning: you can sign into 3Banana with your Google account. No new credentials to remember (or forget), just sign in with Google.

note

Once you’re signed in, start adding notes to 3Banana. Adding notes is as simple as you might think – type or paste something into the box, and click “Save Note”. What’s cool about 3Banana is that it accepts all kinds of tags and text – it’ll recognize phone numbers as phone numbers, links as links, and even supports embedded codes so you can watch movies within 3Banana.

There are a bunch of ways to add a note to 3Banana, and they’re all simple and easy. There’s a bookmarklet for adding notes from other websites, as well as an iPhone app and an Android app. They’re all free, all simple, and all support the same great features as the regular 3Banana interface.

One of my favorite features of 3Banana is the sharing – it’s great at letting you create and share everything from a single note to your whole notebook. At the bottom of every note, there are links to share it in a huge number of ways – email, Facebook, Twitter, or even just by a link. This makes 3Banana perfect for sharing information with friends, colleagues and anyone else in your life.

share

One other thing I like is the tagging system. Instead of tagging individual notes by dragging and dropping or manually adding tags, 3Banana uses something like Twitter’s hashtags. At the end of a note, if it’s a task, typing “#task” adds it to that category and makes it searchable under the “tasks” category.

3Banana isn’t the only application that does what it does, but it offers enough new features that it’s worth a look. The ability to recognize and use HTML code to create something of a rich website within every note, and to easily share the notes you want, are only a couple of the great reasons to check out the super-portable, super-simple 3Banana.

Looks good to me! But just started using Ubernote (www.ubernote.com) for note-taking and absolutely love it. It has a sleek interface, many ways to acquire the notes and just… well, it just plain works :D I switched to UN from Google Notebook after trying Evernote and a few other apps.

Seems that 3Banana has one major advantage over Evernote (was once my favorite) …

There is an Android (G1) app for it !

That’s a huge bonus. And that’s what won me over.

I second that! It is ridiculous easy to jot down notes in 3banana compared to the web interface in Evernote.

Out of all the note taking apps out there (and there’s a lot, I think I really like 3banana over them all. As a g1 user, their app is fantastic. The hash tagging and html embedding are also seriously winning features. 3banana provides a very fluid and easy way to bring my notes everywhere with me. It’s very simple and that trait helps me make things more simple. It’s my notepad for my internetlife.

Glad to see this write up about 3banana. I found out about them on Android and have been hoping they’d pick up more steam. Your article really hits their coolness to a tee.

We are looking into it! We are getting requests for BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Symbian, and Pre.

Follow @3banana on Twitter to see what we are up to!

I use http://www.threetags.com. Just because I am paranoid and ThreeTags service encrypts everything on the client.

If this ever gets as functional as OneNote (from the standpoint of tabular organization, searching all file formats including audio & video), it will rock.

I went for evernote, but they had no android client.
After the reviews here and somewhere else I installed 3bananas. It simply rocks.

I just wonder what their business model is. I dont want to have hundreds of notes there, and then have them suddenly disappear on me. I also don’t want ads to begin appearing everywhere.
