Skype is always working to improve their product lineup, and recently they launched an update for the their iOS application that makes some small, but useful changes. The first change comes in the form of a new dial pad. The old rounded look of the dial pad is gone, in favor of a flat one, that actually looks a lot more like the iPhone’s default dial pad. It should help keep users feeling more at home. The functionality of the dial pad remains the same, but it certainly looks a lot better.
The other change is in the functionality of the instant message feature. This is a bigger change because the original was pretty terrible. They have adopted a design similar to the speech bubbles in the default text messaging application. This allows it to better distinguish who is speaking. Before, it was all blended together, and it was hard to look back and tell which messages you sent and which ones were sent to you. This is a great change for the Skype iOS application, and surprising that it took this long.
There was also an issue with the previous Skype application crashing at launch, but this update is supposed to fix that. It also promises other stability tweaks and general improvements. While nothing in this update is game changing, it is certainly a solid update that improves an already great product.
