Whether if it’s to check for intruders, check how your teenager at home is doing, or anything else, having quick and easy access to a webcam feed in your house is truly helpful. The power of knowing what’s going on can give you real peace of mind. However, setting up professional webcam-based systems can be a pain, especially when it comes to your wallet. The choice, then, is obvious – get a solution like Sentry Vision Security.

a web cam based home security system

This program for Windows can do everything you’ll possibly want out of a simple home security system. There’s plenty it can do, such as motion detection, motion alerts via SMS or email, motion alarm, hidden mode, auto-startup during Windows login, time stamps, multiple camera support, video recordings with sound, broadcast video stream online with smartphone compatibility, remote control with SMS and email commands, and a scheduler.

The program’s interface is small and easy to use, and configuration is pretty straightforward. If you have a webcam or two that you could use, this program is well worth a try.

I use Seedonk.com for my IP Camera video viewing. I use it to monitor my home and dogs while I'm at work or away. Their system and ui is a lot more user friendly and has all the functions mentioned in the article. They also have apps for iPhone (and I think Android) that allows you to view and control your cameras remotely.
