Send Voice or Video Emails with Springdoo

SpringDoo is another intresting service that allows to send video or voice messages via email. This service adds some flavor to usual email services. Instead of writing a message you can send a video or voice email. I think it is potentially usefull especially for people who do not like writing. The simplicity and interface is amazing. To be able to use this service user needs to have mic (for voicemail) and webcam (for videomail).

Once you sign up you can start recording and sending messages. The application is completely free and lets users record up to 10 minute long voice messages and up to 3 minute long videos. The service seems to work smoothly and reasonably fast. Once message is sent it is instantly placed on SpringDoo servers, so that recipient can listen/view it from any web-enabled PC. This approach increases the speed of the voice or video mailing and is much faster then sending file as attachment. In addition, recipient can reply to your message either by voice/video, even if he is not a Springdoo user.

To start sending media emails, users do not require to register, but simply install SpringDoo’s ‘Quick Record Button’. Button available as Firefox / Internet Explorer toolbar, or can be integrated directly into Outlook or PC menu bar.

  • Quick Record button added to Outlook Express:

  • Quick Record button added to the FireFox browser:

  • Quick Record button added to the PCs menu bar:

If you plan to use this service regularly than installing provided toolbar can be a good idea. Another option would be to use SpringDoo online, but in this case make sure to run ‘Sprindoo – Contact Import’ to export your Address Book contacts to SpringDoo account. The only drawback I can think of is limited message storing period, Springdoo saves message only for 30 days, which in my opinion is quite short.
