Last week we asked you about data connection in tablets, and wondered whether you had it and used it on your own tablet Does Your Tablet Have A Data Connection? [MakeUseOf Poll] Does Your Tablet Have A Data Connection? [MakeUseOf Poll] Last week we asked you what your favorite music streaming service is. Although we could not include every existing service, we’d listed all the bigger ones, and out of the 10 options we gave you,... Read More . According to the poll, the vast majority of the voters think Wi-Fi is more than enough for a tablet, and either don’t have or rarely use their 3G connection.

Out of 278 voters, 58% have Wi-Fi only tablets, 7% have 3G tablets, but rarely use the 3G functionality, 10% have 3G tablets a use the connection all the time, 18% don’t own a tablet, but if they did, it would be Wi-Fi only, and 7% don’t own a tablet, but if they did it would have 3G.

Full results and this week’s poll after the jump.

It’s quite surprising to see that only 17% of the voters think 3G is useful for tablets. This might be due to the ease with which one can get a data connection anywhere simply using one’s phone. In this case, as many readers stated in the comments, getting a 3G tablet becomes obsolete.

This week’s poll question is: Will You Rush Out To Buy The iPad 3?

Ads by Google

As you probably already know, the new iPad 3 is due to arrive sometime in March, probably sooner than later. As customary with Apple, no one knows for sure what the iPad 3 has in store for us, but one thing’s for sure: it’s going to be awesome. It’s been only 2 years since the original iPad came into our lives, and only a year since the release of the iPad 2. Most iPad enthusiasts already own an iPad, and others might own a different tablet. The iPad 3 sure looks exciting, but there’s probably going to be an even better one next year. So where do you stand? Will you rush out to get the new iPad 3?

What do you think makes the iPad 3 so exciting? Will you go out and buy it even though you already own an older model? Will owning an older model prevent you from trying out this one? Tell us in the comments!

This is the most useless fanboi poll I have seen here yet. There are actually only 2 choices. 1. This is the second coming. and 2, I don't like Apple

I don't own a pad of any kind because my computer use is currently only on a desk top - not because I hate apple because it's apple. And I'm not going to get one because It costs FAR too much for what little I would use it if I had it. (Cost benefit analysis) Which is the same reason I am not planning on getting any other pad type computer at present.

I have seen far too many people get a pad of some kind claiming it will do something good for their productivity - then end up playing Angry Birds 90% of the time and the other 10% to look up irrelevant things that did not need to be looked up at all, let alone instantly. (I wonder if it's raining outside? How about looking out the window instead of calling up your weather app.)

First of all, thanks for the input. :)

Second, I think your comment is perfect for the "tablets are useless" option, isn't it? It didn't say anything about Apple at all, and you seem to think there's no real need for a tablet. I hope you voted for that option!

If someone was to give me 500 Euros then sure, I would get it.  But otherwise, probably not.  iPad's are so damn expensive and it took years for me to persuade my wife to let me have the iPad 2!

I don't understand this comment made in the article:  "

You can use your smartphone to tether your tablet. This means that if the phone is connected, you can use it to connect the tablet as well.

The link Brchtwrdt posted is a good place to start reading about it. You can also check out many answered questions about tethering in MakeUseOf Answers.

If it is cheaper  and a usb port maybe,  but since I use mine mainly for pdfs, movies and note taking there is really no need for me to upgrade.

I'll be buying the iPad3.  I still am using the original iPad I bought since I didn't buy iPad2.  It'll be a nice change for the weight and having the upgraded display and newer chip.  Though this time around I'll probably only buy the WIFI version.

I got my iPad 2 last week. If it's worth an upgrade I'll sell it and get iPad 3. what do you think??

We'll have to wait and see, won't we! Apple are not really telling  us anything yet. If it's a new iPad 2, it might be worth it!

I have 2 Android tablets, and would buy an iPad also, but will wait until I can get a refurb at the Apple on-line store. Have bought from them before, with good results

I have an older iPad but I'll wait and watch to see what kinds of features the new release will have. If indeed there's a vast difference in specs and stuff, I won't hesitate to buy it.

I need the iPad3 because my kid is taking control of my current iPad1 :-p

I think I'm gonna buy iPad3 and DISALLOW myself to brag about it. iPad is supposed to be used for work and productivity tool, not as a jewelry.

      February 27, 2012 at 8:32 am

I think Apple WANT you to use it as jewelry. After all, they're so pretty, these things. It's like they have a presence you can't ignore!

Yes, Yaara. I’m aware of that. And I’ve found that should anyone want to brag about her Apple devices, she should/could do it to anyone BUT her friends, colleagues, or any of her acquintances. It’s so annoying to have friends who brag about their “Apple toys and jewelries”.

I believe one should and can use MacBook Air, iPad, and iPhone without being a jerk :-)

I completely agree. :) In fact, most people don't even know I own an iPad. I wonder if Apple makes their products so beautiful to encourage people to brag, then their friends can't help it and simply have to buy them too. Brilliant marketing plan!

I have my desktop, my netbook, and my Android phone. That covers pretty much everything I could possibly need, so I haven't bought into the recent tablet fad. Plus, I'm not a fan of Apple's overpriced branding.

I guess that means I won't be getting the iPad 3!

      February 27, 2012 at 8:31 am

I feel the same way about tablets, I actually own one (got it as a present), and I'm still not sure what it's really good for! But I do love to play games on it, much better than any phone. :)

If Apple makes the iPad 3 $300 or less I'll buy one. Otherwise, no.

I'd buy an Android tablet over the iPad3, or any other iPad, I don't like Apple products, too expensive. OpenSource is much better.
