I normally use Macrium Reflect Free (windows) or CloneZilla (linux) to create an image of the hard drive, in its freshly installed state. Just re-image if the system gets screwed up along the way,

“factory settings which are important to the computerâ€™s operation.” Or aren’t; usually only the hardware drivers are important. You can use the PC Decrapifier to remove the toolbars, trial software, and other junk that are unimportant after your restore is completed. (Don’t forget to install a full-version antivirus, like AVG Free 9, after removing the trial version antivirus that ships on most PCs.)
