After all, it allows the player to interact with the game in the most direct way.

Read More , the mouse is an imperative part of the gameplay experience. The large amount of commands available in these games requires the use of many buttons, some of which can actually be mapped to the mouse instead of the keyboard. This is where the Razer Naga 2012 and the Logitech G600 come into play. Each of these mice includes the standard scroll wheel and left and right click, but they go much further, adding a deep suite of programmable buttons that can used for almost anything in games.

Having lots of buttons is all well and good, but in order for it to mean anything, the buttons and the other core functions of the mouse need to work well. So that begs the question: which of these button-filled mice are worth using? I will look at each mouse individually, and then compare them head to head, to see which one wins out as the ultimate MMO gaming mouse. Keep reading to find out! And we’re giving both of them away!

Why Do You Need All Those Buttons?

If you are unfamiliar with Massively Mulitplayer Online Role Playing Games (or MMORPG), they’re games where you control a single character and level them up through a series of quests and raids with other players. In these games, your character will accumulate many spells, each of which will be useful in different situations. As such, you need a lot of buttons for all of these abilities — and mice like the Logitech G600 and the Razer Naga provide a great deal of extra flexibility.

The same applies to other genres, specifically MOBAs, which is where games like Dota 2 and League of Legends fall. This is how I will be testing the mice, as the pace in MOBA games tends to be faster. And if the mice can handle the flow of these games, it can handle anything.

Introducing the Razer Naga 2012 Edition

Razer is a leader in the PC gaming peripherals market. I have been using a Razer Copperhead mouse for years; and even though I’ve tried many other mice, I keep coming back to my precious Copperhead. The build quality of a Razer mouse is apparent right away, and the Naga follows that same path.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

Recommended for sale at $79.99, the Razer Naga 2012 edition falls right in the midrange of gaming mice, at least in terms of pricing. Its main competitor, which is the Logitech G600 that we will get to later in this review, comes with exactly the same price tag. So in the battle of these two mice, it is going to come down 100 percent to performance.

Initial Impressions Of The Razer Naga MMO Mouse

When I pulled the mouse from its Amazon shipping box and looked at the packaging, I was immediately impressed. Razer provides plenty of information on the mouse on the package, and the fold-open box allows you to see what is going on inside.

Once removed from the box, the first thing I noticed was the weight of the mouse. It has a very good balance, and I found it quite comfortable in my hand. It weighs in at a hefty 134 grams, and is pretty large. Right away, I could feel the button placement was pretty good, but the bottom row of programmable buttons sits almost directly on the table, which I thought could be a problem when you are in the heat of the moment.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

The Razer Naga comes with some fantastic documentation, including useful tips for getting used to the mouse. It is definitely a transition, especially if you’ve been playing games a certain way for a long time, and Razer has taken the steps necessary to help make the process as smooth as possible. It also includes two additional grips for the side of the mouse opposite the buttons, which is great for customizing the feel of the mouse for different sized hands. The only notable omission from the package is the software for setting up macros and customize the buttons, but that’s available from Razer’s website.

Playing Games With The Razer Naga MMO Mouse

So how does it feel to play a game with the Razer Naga 2012? Well, in my first test, I used it to play a game of Dota 2 as just a standard mouse, and did not customize any of the controls. I wanted to get a feel for the comfort level offered by the Naga. I must say, I was impressed — my hand never felt tired or sore. The mouse has a wide footprint, which comfortably supported my hand, and left me without any pain, which is the most important thing for any mouse.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

For the next test, I assigned some commands over to the mouse’s 17 MMO buttons, but continued using my keyboard. In Dota 2, all of your items and spells are mapped to keys. So, I left the spells on their default QWER, and mapped the items to the six bottom mouse buttons. I found this worked quite well, and though it took me a little while to get used to, I found not having to move my hands from QWER to use items was very effective, and it is certainly a viable way of playing Dota 2.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

In my last test, I went crazy and removed the keyboard completely. I booted up a game against bots, and went down using only the Razer Naga. This was not the best way to play Dota 2 by any means, but it worked, and I was able to win the game in spite of feeling like something of a fish out of water.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

So is this mouse an effective way to play games? Absolutely. It’s comfortable, has a sensitivity setting that goes up to 5600 DPI, and offers enough button flexibility to change the way you play games — in most cases for the better. Will you want to throw away your keyboard and use only the mouse for every game you play? Definitely not, but that’s not really the purpose. The goal is to enhance what your keyboard can do, and it most certainly does that.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

Here’s a video I made while using the Razer Naga:

Introducing The Logitech G600 MMO Gaming Mouse

Logitech’s G600 MMO mouse features standard left and right buttons, a scroll wheel, a not-so-standard G-Shift button, and a total of 14 additional buttons, which is actually doubled thanks to the G-Shift key. With so many buttons, the Logitech G600 offers all kinds of flexibility and options, and it slightly edges out the Razer in terms of quantity.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

The Logitech G600 comes with the same $79.99 MSRP as the Razer Naga, so price is certainly not a consideration between the two.

Initial Impressions Of The Logitech G600 MMO Mouse

The first thing I noticed about the Logitech G600 was its size. Even as it sits in the package, you realize that this is a hulking mouse. The packaging itself was a little underwhelming, and it opens in a rather odd way. Instead of opening from the top or bottom, the mouse is taped into a tray that pulls straight out. From there, opening the tray in which the mouse is sitting is like a puzzle (especially if you don’t want to rip anything). The mouse does not come with much documentation, just a couple of small pieces of paper. Like the Razer Naga, the software for setting up the macros isn’t packaged, but can be downloaded from Logitech’s website.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

Upon removing the mouse from its box, I was immediately impressed. When I first put my hand on it, it felt comfortable, but it was a little strange having my ring finger resting on the G-Shift button. I also instantly liked the feel of the extra MMO buttons on the side, as they are well-placed and tilted in, which makes it easy to know exactly which button you’re pressing.

Playing Games With The Logitech G600 MMO Mouse

To test the Logitech, I followed the same format as I did for the Razer Naga. I started off just using it as a normal mouse, without any of the MMO buttons. In this first test game, I wasn’t thrilled with the feel of the mouse. The biggest gripe I had was the scroll wheel. In Dota 2, you can click the scroll wheel and drag to move the camera, but the Logitech G600’s scroll wheel felt a little high, and was not comfortable getting to it. Other than that, I found myself accidently clicking the G-Shift button every so often, but that doesn’t really do anything without the MMO buttons enabled.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

For the next test game, I bound items to the MMO buttons on the G600, and played normally. The same problem existed with the scroll wheel, so to compensate, I used more edge scrolling to move the camera. The MMO buttons felt good, and how they were arranged makes it easy to know exactly which button you have your thumb over without looking.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

For the last test game, I used only the G600, and I actually played very well. At this point, I was growing more comfortable with using the MMO buttons, having already played a full mouse-only game with the Razer Naga. I also was getting used to the location of the scroll wheel, but it never quite got to the point where it felt perfect.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

Overall, the Logitech mouse is good for gaming, but it’s not perfect. The G-Shift button feels a little weird, but it offers incredible flexibilty, with the abilty to bind 24 abilities to the mouse. It comes with two buttons that allow you to tweak the DPI on the fly, and an impressive DPI range that goes all the way up to 8200.

I made a recording in case you’re interested to see how the Logitech G600 performs in an actual game:

Logitech G600 vs. Razer Naga

We’ve looked over the two mice, talked about their features, and played plenty of games with each of them. Now, it comes down to the big question: which is the better mouse? The cost of the two is exactly the same, so we can throw price right out of the competition and strictly focus on the feel and performance of the mice.

In terms of features, the Logitech G600 wins hands down. It has more flexibility with the G-Shift button, a higher DPI range, customizable colors for the mouse lights, and better positioned MMO buttons. If you are looking for the mouse that is packed with as many features as you can possibly get your hands on, the Logitech G600 is the easy choice.

razer naga logitech g600 mouse review

That being said, there is more to a mouse than its features. If choosing a mouse was as easy as picking the one with the most features, this review would serve no purpose. There is nothing like getting your hands on a mouse and seeing how it feels — and when it comes down to that, the Razer Naga is just more comfortable. The scroll wheel is placed in a more natural location, the lack of G-Shift button makes the Razer Naga feel like a traditional mouse, and it comes with customizable side plates for different grips. It’s clear Razer was not as worried about how many features it could pack into the mouse. Instead, they decided to spend their time making their mouse as comfortable as it can be.

Which mouse should you buy?

In the end, I prefer the Razer Naga. For me, it comes down to the comfort and feel of the mouse in my hand, and the Razer Naga wins in that regard. However, I still prefer my Razer Copperhead over both of them. In spite of the options offered by these mice, I prefer the simplicity and comfort of a traditional gaming mouse. Still, the Razer Naga and Logitech G600 are both fantastic pieces of gaming hardware, and I would definitely reccommend both of them to any hardcore MMO gamer, with the Naga slightly in the lead between the two.

MakeUseOf recommends: Buy the Razer Naga if you are a hardcore MMO gamer looking for more button flexibility from your mouse.

I have both and the naga just does not feel comfortable at all (2012 and also now a 2014 edition). Over a week of constant gaming including 2 weekends of crazy mmo sessions. My wrists are killing me. Honestly killing me.

The logitech mouse never did that to me. I mean never. I will give the naga till the end of the week and after that I will go back to my logitech.

    June 13, 2013 at 6:56 am

    Ah, which to choose?
For a mouse I think it's necessary to actually try it before saying I like this over the other. And also, due to bio factors, opinions will surely vary widely among different people.
But from a usability standpoint, for me the Logitech has an important advantage: As the review states, the extra buttons were designed so its easier to known which one you're actually pressing, so you wouldn't make annoying mistakes easily.

I'd take the Razer, but only if the software doesn't suck as much as the comments would lead me to believe. The side button placement does look better, but wonder if the wheel's height would get in the way. What's the purpose of very DPI settings? Most games don't have the really useful feature of setting velocity (vs. sensitivity)
Can you set freewheeling vs. stops on the wheel of either?

  98. T. Jeffries
    June 7, 2013 at 3:37 pm

Probably the Logitech G600 as I like the style of it better and considering that it is wider, it won't make it feel like a laptop mouse.

  116. carlos
    June 6, 2013 at 4:29 pm

well, i had a logitech, it was nothing big i come from a poor family just 2 side buttons on the left, but ive been playing mmos recently, i have an extra 20 bucks a month so ive been playing wow with that money and its getting really fun, ive started making youtube videos and my subscribers are going up faster than i expected, my only problem is that i dont have enough keys or mouse buttons to do anything at a high level on my characters in wow, so i really dont know what to do, then i saw this post and i was thinking might as well give it a try, i really dont have to money to by a naga but i think thats what i would chose over the logitech because the one that im using now double clocks sometimes and ive only had it for a couple months.

The DPI shift on the g600 is really wear and also misclicks.
From what I have read, Razr doesn't provide mouse for longevity, but the feeling for g600 is just really not good.

  121. Devin Macmahon

  133. Sérgio
    June 4, 2013 at 1:17 pm

I'd probably pick the Naga, as I have poor fine-motor control, which means comfort is a BIG argument in choosing a mouse. The less I tire, the better I perform.

  149. Chris Marcoe
    June 3, 2013 at 2:22 pm

I think the most buttons I have ever had on a mouse, including the center wheel button and left/right with the wheel is the mouse I have now. Its got forward and back on the thumb and then jsut standard buttons on top of that. So, a ground total of 6 buttons.

As for which I would like, well, they are both such huge stops over what I have now that I would like either.

  150. Mendy Dinsmore
    June 3, 2013 at 12:23 pm

Logitech G600 because it will work for what I need it for

I will definitely pick Logitech G600. That mouse is a beast, I love it, makes games so enjoyable. I'm a big fan of video games and this mouse for me is a MUST. Beside this, I trust Logitech products, awesome quality.

  157. Justin Maanao

  200. Chad Harvey
    June 1, 2013 at 2:49 am

i'd pick the naga over the g600. i don't need that much high dpi (i only play on 1500 at most), and i won't need the g-shift button for another set of buttons. for me i'd probably use maybe 9 of the buttons.

plus i have this weird habit of gripping the mice pretty tight on my hand (no idea if that's a weird or a bad thing, but oh well, been doing that for years), so the g-shift button just might cause a problem for me.

I really like the look of the Naga. I've had another razer mouse for many years that has served me faithfully and never been any trouble, other than stuff that I have screwed up cause I didn't understand technology. I expect the same out of the Naga. Also, I believe you may be able to mess with the build in LEDs to choose your own color, which is cool. That or they just default to green. However, like everyone else has said, quality of quantity.

I like the Naga feel and movement, however I have issues with their mice in general getting spammy and double clicking randomly due to dust under the sensor. Wouldn't stop me from getting another one, just more maintenance!

  253. Ben J
    May 31, 2013 at 1:20 am

I also would mention that you can use these for more than just gaming. I use the keys to use different tools in Corel Draw. Plus the switching between num pad and the number keys along the top can speed up some functions in other applications. Great mouse for extra tools across the board.

  254. Ben J
    May 31, 2013 at 1:18 am

I actually already own a Razar Naga and love it. When I was playing WoW it was great to have actions bound to the thumb buttons, saved a lot of time. Over a period of time I got used to the those keys being there. When I would use a different mouse I would really miss those keys, made me have to look again to find the key I wanted.

I'd go the Logitech G600 hands down. The last mouse I had was a Razer Imperator, and though it was comfortable, the sensor would pick up on the smallest specs of dust on the mouse pad, while my previous Logitech mice (G5, G500, couple others) weren't near this touchy.
On top of this, the Imperator's scroll wheel died after only a couple months. Seriously Razer? Their stuff might look cool and it might be comfortable, but they simply don't last.

    I'd prefer the Razer Naga.

The Logitech has an impressive mouse sensor but it's one that I would most likely not fully use it. Plus, the G-shift keys are an obstruction to me and 24 MMO keys are not necessary and I would find it annoying switching the G-keys, imagine using the right key, but the wrong "page". Though I like its traditional design which should make it more comfortable to hold.

The Razer has it's MMO buttons in a dented side which will prevent my thumb from mispressing any of the keys. (I can't count how many times I mispressed Venomancer's ulti...) However, that is going to make my index feel funny.

    May 29, 2013 at 4:32 pm

I'd pick the Razer, since for the games I play the extra features of the G600 don't seem necessary and from what the review says, the Razer's easier to handle and get used to.

I think i'll pick the Logitech G600 because it looks like it fits just right with my hands and it feels more comfortable to use though both looks amazing.

  376. Mark Dwyer
    May 29, 2013 at 3:38 pm

I'd like either, but if I have to choose, it'd be the Razer Naga. The reason is mostly the name value, but Dave LeClair's review also contributed to my opinion.

    Logitech G600

    May 29, 2013 at 3:06 pm

i have both but i prefer the logitech so much more. it all boils down to the software. RAZER SYNAPSE IS THE WORST. just take a look at the comments at a youtube video about razer synapse. sure, it looks cool, but rendered useless by the software. i hope in the near future this gets fixed by the razer team. they sent me another razer naga once because they cant fix my problem with their software. smh. trust me, get the g600.

I've always wanted to try one of these mice with millions of buttons. I've had some bad experiences with Razer so I think I'd prefer the Logitech (very good track record), though beggars can't be choosers. :D

Razer Naga, which is what I'm currently using. However with extended use, (a couple years), the left mouse button has stopped working and I've started using the 5th mouse button (the one closest to the cord on the left side of the mouse) as the left click.

I would pick the Logitech G600 because I prefer Logitech products. I have a keyboard that has seen the wrath of children's hand pounding on it and spilled juice, and it still operates like a champ!

  416. Chris Coppenbarger

I'd probably go with the Razer, for the comfortability of it.

Razer Naga, I prefer to be comfortable in using the mice than having lots of features :D

    • Mike
      June 11, 2013 at 3:40 am

Great ergonomics at the cost of poor build quality and cheap plastic. I have both mice and yes the naga is more comfortable but is much less durable in terms of build quality.

    • Mike
      June 11, 2013 at 3:37 am

The ergonomics and design of Razer products is great, but the build quality leaves much to be desired. I would highly advise the g600 simply because the software is much better and so is the durability. The build quality of the g600 is much more solid and sturdy.

  425. Chris Knopff
    May 29, 2013 at 12:53 pm

Razer Naga. But I don't mind either. Never look at gift horse in the mouth.

naga... it looks more fit forthe hand

  431. Matthew Sexton
    May 29, 2013 at 12:46 pm

I would go for the G600. I feel that the better MMO buttons are far more important that the scroll wheel, and I never liked how the original Naga felt when clicking.

  432. JonasEikeland
    May 29, 2013 at 12:43 pm

I would pick the Razer Naga, because, based on what you've wrote it sounds like the most comfortable, and best suited for my use. Both of them sounds really good, but I'd prefer the Razer Naga

  433. Felix Cuceanu
    May 29, 2013 at 12:43 pm

    • Mike
      June 11, 2013 at 3:34 am

I have both of these mice and I'll tell you the build quality of the g600 completely outshines the naga. Don't get me wrong the naga is a great ergonomic mouse but the plastic and buttons feel light and chintzy when compared to the g600.

      • Stefan Yas
        June 11, 2013 at 7:51 am

Thanks. Nice to hear an opinion from a first hand user. I really got used to Razer beating the competition, so I assumed it's really the same thing when compared to other products. I'd love to test them myself, to make sure, anyway. :)

I'd pick the Logitech G600. previously had a deathadder that didnt last half a year until it started to double click, so i'd like to try a logitech for once~ =x
