And here it is :

If you work online, what time do you normally start working?   Are you an early-to-rise kind of person or do you like to have your long lie in bed and start working in the afternoon?  What time do you do your best work?

I have a full-time job, so I usually start late, but on my days off I’ll work sporadically throughout the day. So like from 9-12, then 3-5, and 7-12.

    • http://www.deansherwin.com Dean Sherwin

      I should start at 9am

but honestly… It could be as late as 4pm :|

I answer questions/emails on my blackberry throughout the day, but I really start working around 4:00 when everyone else starts to space out. Since no one bothers me, I get 8 hours worth of work done in about 5 – which means I have my days free and I’m still finished in time for House.

    • jamey

I don’t know about House … but I’m with Allie

I’m working with a Social Networking Platform now and I’ve been starting around 8am.

So my normal day starts at 4 or 5 am and usually ends at 11pm, every day except Wednesday which I take a half day off and only work 12 hours.

Not only that, I love it! Really!

  • Noah

I tend to work through the night, going to bed at 8 am.

I thought I was the only one, If you tell people you don’t get up till noon they think your a bum, but I fall asleep at 7, 8, sometimes 9 in the morning. I have never been a day person and I never met anyone that does that were I live.(Michigan)

      • http://makeuseof.com Aibek

I used to that as well, but after switching to day time I realized it’s much better.

          Aibek:

What you mean to say is that it’s much better FOR YOU. Not for everyone.

I teach with an online high school and my office hours start at 10am. But I’m usually online by 8am to get as much grading and emailing done before I’m obligated to pick up the phone. I get so much more done if I don’t have to interrupt myself. Once all my major tasks are done, I can drift back and forth from the computer as I work on creative projects and field phone calls for the rest of the day.

When working home – 8am; when in the office – 9:30am.

  • bben

Usually between 5 and 6 AM. Then I am on line on and off during the day. I take several very long breaks – 2 to 3 hours – to do other things and sign off around 7 PM. And I often take the entire day off to do things with my family

I work for an IT Security company based out of northern CALF. I am a remote systems support engineer for their software. Typically, I roll out of bed around 7 am EST (I live on the east coast) and I’m in office mode by 7:30, which is 30 minutes earlier then required. The CEO in CALF monitors our attendance by IM. Most days I end @ ~5 PM, but sometimes it can be 6 pm or later.

The biggest drawbacks – in case anyone is envious of my employment arrangement – is that I work in a vacuum. Days go by that I don’t talk to a single fellow employee and weeks I don’t even talk to the CEO. Our business is BOOMING, BTW.

    • Ray

I work from home for a large company too, but lately because of what we are rolling out to all our branches, the boss is on the phone every 10-20mins with minor improvements. Otherwise i can work all day to my own pace and never hear the phone ring, i love it.

I’m a self-employed translator (English – Spanish – Portuguese – Italian – French – German), and the time I wake up will depend on my mood, the work flow, the type of translation and how close I am to taking a vacation.

Sometimes I’d go to bed at 10pm to wake up at 4am. I’d work 3 or 4 one-hour shifts during the day (say, 5am, 9am, 2pm, 6pm) for a week or two.

If I’m close to a vacation, I tend to work much slower… that’s the case right now. I wake up at 7am, but I start to work around 11am. Today I woke up at 7.30am and started working at 4pm.

I normally get up at 9 o’clock, have breakfast and start staying at my laptop. I go to bed quite late, normally 2 o’clock. Sometimes more than that.

  • http://www.rowdytown.net Christopher

Get up between 7 and 8am
Bible study and breakfast 8 to 9am
Online around 9, but usually not actually working until about 10am
Quitting time – it all depends on what’s going on, maybe 2pm, maybe 11pm
I really enjoy the freedom. The days fly by.

Wake up at 5:45 listent to news for an hour. While earnest work (from home, BTW) starts at around 10 am I only reach my peak at 1 pm. That lasts for about 2 hours. Double if I have a coffee.

  • http://freelance.weborglodge.com Chris

I’m usually online by 9 a.m., doing email and working before 10 a.m. I’ll work until 2-3 p.m., with a lunch break. After that, I’m doing my own marketing, other business work until 5 p.m. I’m off on weekends.

  • http://moderndaypeasants.com/blog Dan

I usually start at about 8:30 am and work till about 11:30 am. Take a long lunch and start again at about 2:00 and work again till about 7:00 or 8:00 pm. I’m very strict with myself and enjoy what I’m doing so it’s not uncommon for me to work late into the night sometimes.

  • http://preloaderz.com/ preloaderz

Freelance software developer, since my employer is +12 time difference I can work any time, which suits me. However, I found out that starting working in the morning 8-9am is the best choice – since I get my evening time free and can spend it for leisure!

  • rawtomato

Start around 9am, till 2pm or so. Then move to my other job, which is generally not from home.

  • http://pochp.wordpress.comcomcomcom poch

Most of my on-line 2nd batch jobs stop coming at past 11PM
so that’s when I really start work, and by past 2AM,
sleepiness will force me to bed. So I get about more than
5 hours of sleep and start work again by 7.
Then the first batch of jobs rush at 8 and I continue
mostly for more than 2 or 3 hours.

I write for a tech magazine website. I’m online from about 8am, and get to the office about 10.30. I usually stay there till about 7pm then travel home and get back on the laptop for another couple of hours. And, there’s no blinkin’ overtime!

  • leewebdev

I work full-time from home. To avoid being taken advantage of I keep strict hours: 8:00am to 5:00pm with an hour lunch from noon to 1:00pm. My staff knows I won’t answer the phone or e-mail outside of this window. Now, of course I do “check” e-mail all the time (because the iPhone just makes it so damn easy) and I’m always researching and learning on the Web after hours — but don’t all techies do that?

  • Laurie Neumann

I usually get started working anywhere between 9-10am. I like to do some writing in the morning – articles, blog posts, newsletter.

I mix several language-related online/distance jobs: teaching, online exercise authoring and translations.

With the last two I could get up anytime I wanted, but my teaching is with students who live on the other side of the world.

So now I get up at 5am fours day a week and 6.30 am on Sundays.
