Instagram has long been all about creating a community of photographers sharing their images, but one of the app's more recent features is all about saving images you like to your account privately.

Instagram has made it possible to save photos privately for a while now, but in its latest update [Broken URL Removed] comes the ability to keep those saved photos organized, with a feature that is remarkably similar to Pinterest.

How to Create New Collections

To save a photo privately on Instagram, you just tap the bookmark button (

) on the bottom right corner of the photo. If you want to keep your saved images really organized, you can assign them to collections by tapping and holding the bookmark button.

A menu should pop up where you can create a new collection by giving it a name and tapping the done button. That photo is now saved in a collection.

Now that you have one collection, next time you tap and hold the bookmark button, you can either save the image to that collection, or create a new one by tapping the + button.

You can also create a new collection by going to your profile page, tapping the bookmark icon, and tapping the + button in the top right corner of the screen. This is also where you can view your saved images and collections.

How to Add Saved Images to Collections

If you've already made frequent use of Instagram's saved images feature, you can add those existing saved images to collections. Just open up the collection, tap the menu button...

...and tap Add to Collection. A list of saved images and videos that aren't in that collection will pop up. You can tap as many as you want to add them to the collection to select them. Tap the Done button when you've completed your selection.

How to Delete Collections

If you're done with a collection and no longer want it, go to your saved images tab, navigate to the Collections section, and tap on the collection you want to delete to open it.Tap the three buttons in the top right corner and select Edit collection > Delete Collection. 

To remove a photo from your saved images, open it up and tap the bookmark button (

) again.

Why Use Collections?

This is a great way to create a visual inspiration board of images. If you're redecorating your house, or working on an art project, or just looking for inspiration, you can create collections for later viewing, using them in much the same way you would a secret Pinterest board.
