Facebook users usually get an email from the social network each time they receive a wall post, comment, or any other type of notification. To view this notification you have to click on a link in the email that opens in a new tab. This applies to Facebook, Groupon, Twitter, and numerous other networks. Here to save you from those extra click and new browser tabs is a web service called PowerInbox.

PowerInbox is a free to use web service that adds ‘power tools’ to your email inbox. By providing you with an extension for Chrome and Firefox, the service adds a new box to your emails. This box opens up each time you are reading emails from Facebook, Twitter, or Groupon. For Facebook this box lets you comment back on posts, for Twitter the box lets you tweet and follow back, and for Groupon the box shows a live countdown to the expiry.

PowerInbox also offers extensions for Rockmelt and Microsoft Outlook and works with Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo! Mail. Support for other web browsers and platforms is coming soon.
