HovClick.com has a good way to create these too. I’ve seen some whitepaper reports that companies will use this instead of foresee surveys.

Hi all,

The purpose of this article is simply to inform that there are ways to do pop ups and if done correctly they could be beneficial to web owners. But the decision whether or not to use the tools should be in the web owners’ hand.

The article and the comments have pointed out the possible outcomes of using such tools. And if the web owners still think that the tool is worth the risk after knowing all the consequences, let the site visitors decide their next move.

If I see a good site, I’ll subscribe to it’s feed, if a site site is asking me to subscribe, I will ignore it and subscribe it if I like it or don’t if I don’t, but if a site is forcing me to see a sign asking to subscribe, you can kiss me good bye, it’s a principles thing

I have to agree with you all. As a developer, I would insist that none of my clients ever try to add a pop-up. They are the most obtuse form of attention grabbing and no one appreciates them. There is simply no way to “do them right”.

I agree with Richard, if done correctly, popups can enhance user experience. As someone mentioned, webmasters may use them for surveys, provided that they don’t interrupt user.

I wonder why a website has to “gently remind” a visitor to subscribe to its RSS feed.

Popups should be banned in all forms.

As the author mentions If done properly pop-ups have huge advantages. Talk of banning popups on WP is ridiculous. If a site owner abuses popups he receives his just reward by seeing less and less viewers on a daily basis.

Let the market decide what does and doesn’t work – not personal prejudices by anti-marketers.

I use the Super Popup plugin on my site and I get subscribers to my email list with it. I also have a sign up form on my site and less people use that one. People spend several minutes on my site frequently so the popup isn’t chasing them away. Also, you can set it up so that it only pops up once or twice for any given user as long as they don’t delete their cookies.

If done correctly, popups can be pleasant and informative. They’re not like the self-replicating ones from sites that are spyware filled and the like.
