PlagSpotter is a web service that helps you battle against a very common nuisance – online plagiarism. A web content creator works hard to exercise their creativity so that unique content is created for people to read. Unfortunately there are others online who simply copy this content and paste it on their own websites.
There are various tools that help you catch the locations where your content is used. Mostly, however, you need to paste your textual content into a provided field. What PlagSpotter does is take the copy-pasting out of the equation – all you have to do is paste in the URL of your website.
The web app will then scan the text on your website and match it across other websites. Matched texts are shown along with a percentage. For example, for MakeUseOf, the matched text percentage was 63. This means that 63% of the textual content on this website is used on other websites in one way or another – or perhaps the other way around!
To refine the results, you can check out the “Originality Report” tab or try out the “Check Your Whole Site” option. This latter option will cost you $0.04 per URL check on your website but it will ensure a good, thorough analysis of copied content.
