The latest update to iTunes provides a big improvement over past versions, but iTunes is now more than a humble music player. As well as the music store, TV, movies and mobile app management, iTunes is also a base for iOS devices. If you own an iPad, iPod or iPhone you’ll no doubt appreciate all this functionality in the one package, but if you’re just after a simple music player then iTunes can seem… a bit much at times. Step in Pinna.
Pinna is a music player and nothing more. It is not a replacement for iTunes and nor does it pretend to be – Pinna requires an iTunes library in order to locate and play your music. Pinna’s beauty lies in what it doesn’t do – and that’s managing your iPod, allowing you to buy whole TV series or finding the latest and greatest apps.
From a simple and minimalist interface, Pinna is a command centre for your tunes.
Many of the usual features you’d expect from a good music player are present and correct – a play queue, an intelligent shuffle feature and seriously simple navigation. Also included is an Explore feature which keeps you up to date with trending music, the ability to share music with friends, a smart art view when the app is minimised and integration with services like Last.fm.
- A simple music player that only does music.
- Simple navigation with a pointer or keyboard.
- Share, discover and queue tracks.
- Automatically pause music when headphones are unplugged, get feedback in the form of notifications.
