Odeo – Massive Podcast Directory

Odeo is a podcast directory. What is a Podcast ? If you are not familiar with the term, below is how wikipedia (profile) defines it:

A podcast is a multimedia file distributed over the Internet using syndication feeds, for playback on mobile devices and personal >computers.

I personally would rather think of them as blogs in audio format that usually contain discussions or interviewes between 2 or more people.

Odeo is a directory that aggregates and categorizes most of the web podcasts in one place. It has more then 2 million podcasts in its database with almost 200.000 registered users. And now comes my favourite part, *Odeo is completely free*. To start using it, all you need is to go through a simple sign up process and subscribe to podcasts of your choice.

Odeo categorizes podcasts using tags assigned by users. For instance, if you press on term comedy you will get all podcasts that people tagged as ‘comedy’. Furthermore, apart from stuff like ‘recently played’, ‘popular now’ you also get ‘Top 10 Podcasts’, which in my opinion is an excellent place to start with.

There are many ways to play podcasts, you can either listen to them right from your account window or from your favorite feedreader. If you are using Apple’s iTunes Player, you can use it for that purpose as well.

That’s all for Odeo…
