    I use 31 different applets.

I use IFTTT to crosspost between all my social media profiles. So, a photo post or specially tagged post on one service will crosspost to as many as four others. I don't actively use most of them. However, I have a unique online identity and in order to prevent it from being hijacked by others, I've registered it on dozens of services across the web and IFTTT allows me to keep many of these less used social profiles active.

The trick was to make sure I wasn't double-posting things or creating a loop between multiple services.

I do similar synchronizing of information between my personal wiki (through RSS), as well as several photo and news reading sites. Besides, it's just fun. I like playing around with this stuff, just because I can.

I also get a lot of weather information, synchronize information between various fitness apps that don't like to play nicely with each other, natively and adjust my ringer and toggle wifi based on location and time of day.

I also played around with some of the home automation, but the native application does most of what I can do through IFTTT already, so it was redundant. You will find that with a lot of the services, but IFTTT is great at filling in holes between services that haven't otherwise been addressed.

I use IFTTT to watch my instagram posts, and copy what I post to other social media sites. It does the work so I don't have to !

I'm new to IFTTT, so so far only one applet (besides experiments).
I made a startup script to write a file in a Dropbox folder, and IFTTT notifies me when that file changes. This way I get a notification when that PC boots at the end of the almost-daily electricity outages we have in my country (at least if there is no internet outage at the same time). One thing, though: sometimes it takes a while for IFTTT to notice the event and notify me.
