YouTube still has more videos uploaded to its website for public consumption than anything else on the internet. But finding those videos is not as fun an experience as it once was. Let's face it, we've all gotten a bit bored with the same old YouTube interface.

Not too long ago, YouTube unveiled a redesign for its website. It also included a secret Dark Mode. But even these aren't doing the trick. What you sometimes need is a completely new way to browse YouTube or watch the videos on it.

1. YouTube Roulette (Web): Random Videos, Played Endlessly

Much like how StumbleUpon serves up interesting sites one after another, YouTube Roulette serves up cool YouTube videos endlessly. The site doesn't clarify the mechanism by which videos are added, but it's a fun viewing experience nonetheless.

YT Roulette also lets you filter it by categories, including music, sports, games, shows, and funny. There's a search bar to find something you want, like movie trailers. And you can also use suggested tags like GoPro or Minecraft to find what you like.

Personally, I had a pretty fun time watching the Funny category for some time. YT Roulette does a good job of finding videos that you've probably never seen before.

2. YouTube Map Explorer (Web): Click a Location, Find Videos [No Longer Available]

YouTube is used across the world, so YouTube Map Explorer lets you browse the world to find videos. It's a large map of the world, like what you will get in Google Maps. Click any place and you'll find a video uploaded from there.

The video shows as a pop-up in the map itself, so you won't be leaving the map. Click even a tiny bit to the right or left and you'll get a new video. Use the search bar to find a place, or browse around yourself.

YouTube Map Explorer also lets you choose the kind of video it shows. In the top-left corner, toggle between "Latest" and "Classic" to get something new or one of the most-liked videos on the site. It's a mind-blowing new way to use maps.

3. Noutube (Web): The Latest Video on YouTube Right Now

How would you like to be the first person to view a video on YouTube? Go to NouTube and you might just be, as it finds the most recently uploaded video on YouTube, down to the second.

We've previously talked about Astronaut.io, which also gathers videos with zero views. But NouTube isn't focusing on that. Instead, it's all about checking out new videos as they are uploaded.

Once you start watching a video and want to see something new, click the little "even newer video" button right above. YouTube has so many uploads that the button is always available.

4. My 90s TV (Web): 90s Television via YouTube

If you were old enough to watch TV in the 1990s, you're going to love this site. YouTube has plenty of videos that were playing on the idiot box back then. Someone put together a bunch of them to form a television set from the 90s.

You'll be staring at a picture of an old CRT TV, and a remote control next to it. Choose the year (from 1990 to 1999) and flip through the channels. Talk about a blast from the past!

A list of video categories can make your channel surfing easier. Choices include cartoons, comedy, commercials, drama, soaps, game shows, kids' shows, movies and trailers, music, news, sports, and talk shows. It's a bit like the treasures you dig up at the Internet Archive.

5. MINI Fast Forward [Broken URL Removed] (Chrome): Fast Forward Through Videos

YouTube is missing a simple fast-forward button. The Mini Cooper S made a neat Chrome extension to introduce it. Install it and all you need to do is press "S" to fast-forward.

Sure, you probably know the trick to go 10 seconds forward by pressing the "L" key. But that's not the same effect. The Mini extension speeds up the video by 8x its normal speed, and zooms through it so you can see what's happening every second.

Unfortunately, you won't get to hear any sound while using the Fast Forward extension, as Mini has replaced it with an engine's roar. But that's a small price to pay to get to fast-forward through YouTube videos.

And if you like this, you should check out some of our other favorite extensions that make YouTube awesome.

Do You Still Go to YouTube.com?

I was just thinking about it, and I can't remember the last time I visited the homepage of YouTube. When you want to watch new videos, do you still go to YouTube.com? If not, how do you find new videos to watch?
