Coming in just after the hit Internet TV show House of Cards, Netflix has finally released its long-awaited original series: Hemlock Grove. Backed by Eli Roth (director of Hostel), the series is an adaptation of Brian McGreevy’s novel of the same name.

Hemlock Grove’s entire 13-episode first season will be released on April 13. The show stars Famke Jensen (X-Men), Landon Liboiron (Terra Nova), Bill Skarsgård (Simon and the Oaks), Penelope Mitchell (6 Plots), Lili Taylor (Six Feet Under), and Dougray Scott (Desperate Housewives).

Hemlock Grove appears to incorporate elements of monsters, magic, and mystery. Deeper story concepts such as class warfare will also be utilized, and overall, the series should offer an interesting, thought-provoking plot. Below is the story synopsis from Netflix:

In the shadows of a rusted Pennsylvania steel town, the mangled body of a teenage girl is discovered. As they hunt for a monster among them, rumors mount and many of the eccentric residents become suspects, from the newly arrived gypsy family to the wealthy Godfrey clan. In the twisted world of Hemlock Grove, everyone hides a dark secret.

It’s important to bear in mind that this show was developed for mature audiences, and as such, it will feature highly adult themes. Brandishing a TV-MA rating, the trailer highlights a few violent and steamy scenes. Despite this, it is expected that Hemlock Grove will showcase remarkable storytelling as a well-crafted piece of Internet television. As this is an original Netflix production, it will only be limited to countries where Netflix is available.

Are you looking forward to Hemlock Grove? What do you think of the Netflix TV show concept?
