Netflix is bringing back Sense8 after passionate pleas from fans. The good news is Sense8 will be back with a two-hour special designed to wrap up all the loose ends. The bad news is that will then be the end of Sense8, with Netflix declining to renew the series for another season.

Netflix was once the home of lots of old shows that had previously aired elsewhere. Now, things are changing, with Netflix culling much of the filler in favor of making its own original shows Netflix Removes 50% of its Catalog to Fund Original Content Netflix Removes 50% of its Catalog to Fund Original Content Have you noticed the Netflix catalog getting smaller in recent years? From Cancellation to a Comeback

At the start of June Netflix cancelled both Sense8 and The Get Down. Then Netflix also cancelled Girlboss, another of its big-budget, much-hyped originals 15 New Netflix Originals You'll Be Watching in 2017 15 New Netflix Originals You'll Be Watching in 2017 Netflix is now producing its own original content. Fans of these three shows were not happy, and expressed their displeasure at these decisions online and to anyone who’ll listen.

There seemed little chance that lobbying Netflix to bring any of these shows back would work. However, Netflix has now announced Sense8 will return for a one-off, two-hour special in 2018. The aim being to tie up the loose ends and give the fans some much-needed closure.

Series creator Lana Wachowski posted a letter on the official Sense8 Twitter account, saying:

“Friends kept calling from all over the world asking, ‘Isn’t there anything you can do?’ And the truth was, no. By myself, there was nothing I could do. But just as the characters in our show discover that they are not alone, I too have learned that I am not just a me. I am also a we.”

“The passionate letters, the petitions, the collective voice that rose up like the fist of the Sun to fight for this show was beyond what anyone was expecting. Improbably, unforeseeably, your love has brought Sense8 back to life. (I could kiss every single one of you!).”

While most Sense8 fans would have preferred to see Netflix commissioning a third season, this should be considered a victory. After all, this is one of the rare occasions when fan power has won out, with a massive moneymaking company changing its mind as a result of pressure.

Better Than Traditional Networks

Netflix deserves a lot of credit here. Sense8 was clearly loved by its small legion of fans, but it wasn’t being watched by enough people to justify its existence. Netflix could have just let it die on a cliffhanger 10 Unmissable TV Shows the Internet Saved for You 10 Unmissable TV Shows the Internet Saved for You Of all the amazing benefits of the Internet, one that is often overlooked is its ability to resurrect forgotten cultural icons. And we cannot name a traditional television network that would have made the same decision.

Is there anything that can be done to continue Sense8? There are so many paths this show and the characters can follow. I can see many more seasons of this show if someone has the wisdom to pick it up

I just finished season 2 and was heart broken to find out that there wasn't going to be a season 3. I plead with you don't let this be the end. This is the best show I have ever watched in my life, don't let it end.

I love this show and I think it should be picked up by HBO or another major network that can continue to give life to these amazing characters. I also think if it got pick up the fan base would grow tremendously. There is nothing out there like this show and it should be seen. Is this even a possibility?!?!? I think it should be!!!

This was an incredible show. The story took cinema out a brand new door. It's to bad Netflix didn't want to be a leader of the 21st century. There have been many shows that have been ground breaking, but I guess unconventional sex is a problem for many. It's funny but I saw past that. Just like in real life, I don't judge people for what they do. So why should I judge actors for a character to play. To tell you the truth the story showed that any one character can be involved in a supernatural fantasy. I'm happy Netflix is ending the show with a two hour special. But I wish they had the nerve to continue the series with the response they recieved from fans. Think of all the fans who didn't write in to voice their concern about the cancellation. Netflix shows some weak shows and when comes along as powerful as Sense8, they wimp out. Hey guys, after all, I thought it was all about the MONEY? Peace

I agree with you. If it's too expensive sell it!
I think it's changed everything for the people that are awake. It's brilliant. Thank you for at least two more hours of something amazing.

Huge fan and was extremely disappointed when it was announced the show would be cancelled. I do hope this small window of opportunity will lead to something bigger for the show. Perhaps the loud chorus of voices has created more followers, beyond the hard-core fan base, that will translate into a bigger audience that makes the show financially viable.
