The “Other” Google Services that You Use [Poll]

Google Services Time for another MakeUseOf Poll, so get ready to vote. The goal of this poll is to discover those little known yet very useful web apps from Big Brother Google you didn’t know about. So make sure to vote on your Top 5.

We deliberately left out the popular ones including Youtube, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar, Google Reader, Orkut, Blogger and obviously Google Search.

Please Vote!

Website and Download Links

There is no doubt we might have missed a few, so if you’re aware of any other Google service that wasn’t listed here let us know in the comments. Make sure to include the link as well. But DON’T vote for one of the popular services mentioned at the beginning! This poll is for the lesser known Google services.

Maximum of 5 allowed choices is a little less out of so many. That too Google services

Interesting results so far. Would have expected blog search to be higher. Please keep the polls coming, we’re all learning here.

    • Adi

Yeah I too feel blog search should have been in the top five

I also would have chosen Google Site Search that visitors use to search my website had it been listed as a choice.

    • http://makeuseof.com Aibek

It’s listed, see Google CO-OP (Custom Search)

  • Kathleen

why limit it to “top 5″?

I also thought Google Reader would be on this list… I use that more than anything

    • http://makeuseof.com Aibek

Google reader was deliberately left out, read the first 2 paragraphs.

Since when is Google Maps “little known”? I thought it was pretty much the de facto map/location application used by the masses. (The day my mom uses something, I pretty much assume the rest of the world knows about it. :-) )

    • http://makeuseof.com Aibek

My bad, The maps should have been left out as well.

  • dianoga

What about Adsense? Isn’t that a google service? I second Google Reader too.

    • http://makeuseof.com Aibek

Ooops, I missed this one as well.

  • John Baima

I forgot about Maps until after I voted D:

I use the translator all the time, I’ve found it works best for me comparatively.

    • http://ubuntulinuxtipstricks.blogspot.com Mackenzie

Google’s translations always seem very odd to me. I use Dictionary.com

And where in the ether did my comment go? I said I found it hard to pick 5 because I had to think hard about “I’ve heard of that, have I ever used it? Um, maybe once…yeah, I think something was hosted on Google Code…”

    * So Google Apps, Google Reader, News Archive and Adsense are missing
    * 10 Choices minimum please
    * Maybe include advanced labs views that cross two sections — like timeline view

  • dabvekebb

    Oh, and also Webmaster Tools

    • http://makeuseof.com Aibek

Oh man, I missed this one as well. My bad

  • dabvekebb

And Google Docs! This survey wasn’t really well expedited was it?

    • http://makeuseof.com Aibek

Google Docs was left out deliberately, read the first two paragraphs.

By the pint of the poll, I would have left out maps, earth, iGoogle, and Picasa, as I know more people who use those then use Reader (although I love Reader, but many people don’t know/understand RSS, but every one needs directions).

  • melvyn

The restriction of ‘five’ made this too difficult to respond to. I use many of these on a daily basis: “Advanced Search”, Notebook, Alerts (do I use this continually?), News, etc

  • Red

I don’t understand RSS things… but I understand google reader! lol

OH.. I use google calendar sync with my outlook calendar… I like that since I can glance at my calendar even when away from my computers. I also have a lap top…. and I sync both my desktop and laptop calendar w/ the google sync… I’m sure there are other ways i could sync the two, but this is so easy.. it sync’s every 120 mins or so on both.. so I don’t even have to think about it…
