Comments on: How do you Feel about List-style Articles ? [Poll]

Lists are just fine with me as long as they have a description and are short. Also, I like the person that’s reviewing them to have pretty good knowledge of the web site. It always bothers me when I visit a web site that’s a good IDEA, but has too many bugs or just links a bunch of youtube videos or other web sites. Most often I’ve seen this happens with music sites where someone says that you can listen to streaming mp3′s and create playlists and it’s another crappy youtube video link site. I know how to do a youtube search just fine, thank you.

I am not a fan of lists, but I guess many people are and thats the idea to satisfy most people. Even though I visit MUO everyday, I on few occasions read the Cool Websites and Tools post because of this. However, if I do click on it I do selective reading to see which ones stand out and don’t visit each one on the list.

I really like list articles provided the title doesn’t contain the number of items in a list. In other words, instead of “7 Best Do-Whats”, I would much rather see “Best Do-Whats”. Giving the number of list items in the title is a clichÃ© and reminds one of, say, Cosmopolitan magazine. Just tell us what the focus of the list, not the number of items. Thanks.

I like top list articles as long as there’s decent white space, headlines, and images are nice too. But I don’t even look at the directory links posts that you post every once in a while (yea, I’m weird about layouts, I even re-edit some stuff I save to disk).

Somewhere on a blog, in a post about blogging tips, I had read that readers like lists. Then there were a few examples of some blogs that regularly post lists, for example, http://www.smashingmagazine.com. Thats true.

But I think Short lists are better than top 50 or top 100…long lists simply make you bored and tired (except if its about wordpress themes, wallpapers and similar stuff).

But still, I’ll vote for all of ‘em. Hey, but dont make your site crowded with lists…we also like detailed, one-subject (one thing or one stuff or….whatever, you get me, right ? ) posts.
