Facebook Messenger has a ton of features most people barely use, or are perhaps not even aware of. One of the most impressive of these are "bots."

Bots are pieces of software that automate specific tasks. For a while now, developers have been able to create bots for Messenger, and there are thousands of them out there.

Most bots simply act as a customer service advisor, pointing you to the department you need to get hold of, or sending you to a specific help page. But others are way more interesting.

We've recommended a few of these before in this article and this one. These cover everything from seeking medical advice to tracking your workouts right from within Messenger.

But this is only scratching the surface. Below are 12 more fun, useful, and interesting bots that you should go right ahead and start chatting with!

1. Game of Thrones Survival Game

If you're missing Game of Thrones and feel like you know the show inside out, it's time to put your knowledge to the test!

This bot can challenge you to a 7 Kingdoms Quiz, or guide you through a fun Live the Adventure game that'll soon determine how much you know the GoT tales.

2. Movie Finder

If you're anything like me, hours can disappear while you trawl Prime Video and Netflix trying to find your next movie fix.

By answering a few questions from MovieFinder, it'll offer recommendations for what you should watch next. For instance, I let the bot know that I wanted to watch a horror movie, was "open minded," and had an interest in technology. It came back and recommended Lady Vengeance, Pi, 28 Days Later, and more.

3. Whole Foods

If you want a fun and easy way to find new recipe ideas, the Whole Foods bot is a great place to start.

Let the bot know the type of recipes you're looking for, and you'll be given a number of recommendations, along with links to the full recipe on the Whole Foods website. Filters include cuisine, type of dish, and special diets. You can also use the bot to find your local Whole Foods store.

4. MeditateBot

Struggling to stick to a regular meditation habit? MeditateBot, from the creators of the popular Calm meditation app, might be able to help.

The bot offers links to teach you about the benefits of meditation and can take you through meditation challenges day by day. But more importantly, you can use the bot to regularly remind you to complete your meditation practice. Just let the bot know what time you want to be reminded, and you'll receive a reminder each day within Messenger.

5. Atlas Fitness

The Atlas Fitness bot aims to help you stay in shape and be motivated. If you need a bit of inspiration, just click the Motivation button to receive some inspirational quotes. If you want to set regular reminders to work out, the bot can do that, too.

You can also browse some of the Atlas Fitness workouts, join one you like the sound of, then receive reminders each day with instructions that'll take you through each workout.

6. MojiHunt

If you're looking for an ingenious way to procrastinate, try MojiHunt.

This is probably the most addictive game on Messenger. You'll be guided through blowing up bombs, killing aliens, opening secret doors, and more... all with the help of trusty emojis.

7. Daily FitBot

A somewhat simpler bot than Atlas Fitness, just type Workout in the Messenger window, and DailyFitBot will send some simple instructions for you to complete various high-intensity interval workouts -- no gym required. Links for video instructions for each part of the workout are also provided, if you need them.

This is a great way to get instant fitness instruction, whether you're at home, in the office, or on the road.

8. Wall Street Journal

Getting started with the WSJ bot couldn't be easier. You can type things like Top News to see the latest headlines with links to full stories. By typing lookup [company name] you'll get live stock prices, and news related to that company.

You can even subscribe to receive a morning briefing from the bot ready to read over your morning coffee.

9. Dad Joke Bot

No prizes for what you're getting yourself into by using the Dad Joke Bot. Whether you're sat bored on your own, or with a group of friends, just keep hitting Gimme a joke and Gimme another to be treated to dad joke after dad joke. Prepare to facepalm.

10. BeerBot

Once of my personal favorites, BeerBot is your own personal beer guide. You can use the bot to search for specific beers. You'll then be given a brief description of the beer, plus flavor notes, links to other beers by that brewer, and a link to the brewery website.

You can also search for Beers Near Me so you can see what's available in your vicinity. A fantastic, easy way to learn more about the beers you're sipping!

11. Erwin

If you're a lover of riddles, you're going to love Erwin. He'll ease you in gently with a simple riddle, only to throw some spanners in the works as things get going.

This is a fun, challenging way to exercise your brain when you have a few minutes to spare.

12. SkyScanner

I wouldn't say it's any easier than using the SkyScanner website, but searching for flights using this Messenger Bot is an alternative option if you need it.

Tell the bot where you would like to go, where you'll be departing from, and your dates of travel, and it'll get back to you with the 10 lowest prices. The best feature here, though, is definitely the Reminder feature. If you choose to use this, the bot will check the flight for you each day and inform you of any price changes.

What Have We Missed?

As I said, Messenger bots are probably the most impressive of all the underused Messenger Features. Most of them won't be of much use to you, but others probably will be, depending on your interests.

There are so many to choose from, but between the few articles on the subject published here at MakeUseOf, we think we've found some of the best. But there are thousands more out there.
