Max Payne, the moody shooter that spawned a franchise which will soon see its third rendition arrive on major consoles and the PC, is now available on iOS devices. Android owners will have to wait until April 26th to enjoy some bullet-time action.
The game is not a version of the latest incarnation (Max Payne 3) but rather a do-over of the original, which was released for PC over ten years ago. All of the content found in the cult classic is available alongside new touch-optimized controls and slightly revised graphics. Die-hard fans need not worry about any loss of atmosphere, as the graphical changes have been undertaken to enhance performance, not change the game’s tone.
Max Payne Mobile is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S, all three iPads and the fourth-gen iPod Touch. Android compatibility has not yet been announced but will be made available on the app’s Google Play page when it goes live later this month.
The re-release of the game on mobile devices is no doubt meant to build hype for Max Payne 3, which is set to launch for consoles on May 15th. Like Android fans, PC gamers will have to wait a bit – the new game doesn’t launch on Windows until May 29th.
