Something that doesn’t appear often when it comes to mobile apps are sports games, which is weird because they aren’t (or in my opinion shouldn’t be) all that much harder to make than the many puzzle games available in both the Android and iOS app stores. Therefore, if you’re a big sports fan, it’s great to have a couple of games on your smartphone related to your favorite sports.
Some provide fairly cool twists to very popular sports, such as the game Pocket Soccer, so there are a couple worthwhile options. In fact, if you like soccer, you may enjoy other approaches as well.
About Big Win Soccer
Big Win Soccer is a mobile game for Android and iOS devices in which you manage your own fictional soccer team. While this game doesn’t let you play soccer in the same sense as that of console games like FIFA do, it is still an interesting, exciting, and well-developed application for you to use.
The developers behind Big Win Soccer also have a few variations of the game which incorporate other sports, such as Big Win Football or Big Win Basketball. All of these should be easy to find in your respective app store.
When you first launch the game, you’ll need to create a new team that you are going to manage. It’ll take a couple steps in order to complete this process, which includes tasks such as naming your team, customizing players, and more. Once you have created your team, it’s time to start with your managerial duties and play games!
For team upgrades and game advantages, the app relies on a card system which may remind some people of Pokemon or YuGiOh. By buying card packs – of which there are different levels such as bronze, silver, etc, and then choosing a random card pack out of five – you gain various items, such as team kits which allow you to change your jerseys, and cards which can be used during gameplay to enhance certain tasks such as corner clearance or “nerves of steel” for the goalie in penalty kick situations. You might even receive skill boost cards, which you can apply to players in increase their abilities so that they perform better in games.
There are a lot of different cards which you can receive in your card packs, which makes the game pretty dynamic.
Whenever you’re ready, you can start a match between you and another opponent. There are a couple of different game modes, including Daily Trophy, Friends Trophy, and Quick Game. The game will describe each game mode for you, as well as give you a decent tutorial when starting out the game so that you know what you’re doing. However, the Daily Trophy and Friends Trophy are tournaments, which vary between everyone and just your friends.
In my case, I most commonly use the Quick Game mode, where the servers randomly pick another team for me to play against. I can then choose up to three cards which can give me game advantages and then start the match!
While the downside to the game is that you cannot play as one of the players on the field, you can still watch the game as it was simulated by the servers. I find the matches pretty amusing to watch because you can see some great comebacks. For example, after one of my players made a hat trick, the other team made three equalizing goals where each of them was a penalty kick.
However, if you don’t want to see the whole match, you can skip ahead to the final score.
Over time, you can gain more coins, buy more or better card packs, and improve your team so that your overall record will improve. Don’t be disappointed if you start out horribly – after playing a few matches, my record was 0-1-3. Hopefully you’ll have better luck than me!
To install Big Win Soccer, you’ll need to search your respective app store for “big win soccer“. Alternatively, you can follow this link for Android devices or this link for iOS to go directly to the app. The download itself should be completely free, although a few very minor features within the game itself may cost money.
Although I’m still disappointed that there aren’t many games which let you play in a manner similar to FIFA, this is still a fantastic soccer-related game which is sure to keep plenty of soccer fans entertained. It’s definitely got me hooked shortly after discovering it, so don’t be surprised if it does the same for you!
