Good news for everyone who wants to control their Windows machine or Mac from the iPad – LogMeIn has just released a new version of their iOS app, and it’s completely free! If you’ve been using LogMeIn on your iPad, you will know that LogMeIn Ignition was previously sold for $30. Now you can get many of the features the old version offered, without paying a dime.

The free version lets you control any Windows machine or Mac from your iPad, as if you were actually using your own computer. This is very useful if you need to use your actual computer on the go, no matter where you are. The free version doesn’t include HD video and sound streaming, the file manager, remote printing and several other features, but it’s great value for your money if you need remote access capabilities.

But what about those who paid $30 in the past for an app that’s now free? Don’t worry. If you’ve purchased LogMeIn Ignition in the past two years, you will be grandfathered in and receive some Pro features, such as the HD streaming, without having to pay anything again. If you’re waiting for an Android version, one will probably come out sometime next year.

Do you often have the need to remote access your computer from your iPad? Do you find apps like LogMeIn useful?

I use the iPad 2 for a lot of “real” work, and a big part of that work involves LogMeIn Ignition on the iPad. I regularly use it to remote control either my Mac or a Windows system to work as if in front of that system in my office no matter where I am.

    What does it include?

Remote access, of course! You can control your computer remotely from your iPad, change files, install and uninstall stuff.. whatever you can expect from remote access.
