If you own an Xbox One you can now use Spotify to soundtrack your gaming. This is thanks to Spotify finally releasing an Xbox One app, several years after Spotify made its debut on the PlayStation 4. Now all you need to do is match the right music to the right game, and you're all set.

Spotify is the most popular streaming music service around, with 60 million paying subscribers and 140 million total active users. Spotify is available on a range of different platforms, including the PlayStation 4, but the Xbox One has never been honored with its presence. Until now.

Install the Spotify App on Your Xbox One

After teasing its existence, Microsoft has today launched Spotify Music for Xbox. Spotify for Xbox is available to anyone, whether they're a new user, an existing Free user or an existing Premium user. You just need to install the Spotify app on your Xbox One and follow the instructions.

Once you've set everything up you can use Spotify on your Xbox One. You can play your saved music, search through Spotify's catalog of 30 million songs, or play one of the curated playlists made with gamers in mind. Which includes a playlist made by Microsoft's Major Nelson.

You can listen to Spotify while gaming, which effectively enables you to create your own soundtracks for particular games. And because Spotify Music for Xbox works with Spotify Connect you won't ever need to pause your game to change tracks, as you can use your phone instead.

Spotify for Xbox One is available in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, the U.K., and the U.S.

The Xbox One Beats the PS4 at Something

It may have taken Microsoft too long to bring Spotify to the Xbox, but it's better late than never. The app looks good too, and the option to listen to your own soundtrack while gaming is priceless. We recently compared the Xbox One and PS4 as standalone media players. The Xbox One won that particular battle, so if anything the addition of Spotify is just the icing on the cake.
