If searching for jobs and professional contacts is something you need to do often, you’re going to love the unified search enhancements LinkedIn has just put in place. Historically, LinkedIn has had disparate searches for people, jobs, companies, or groups. The revamped search algorithm brings all of these under one search umbrella, so you no longer have to search them separately – just type in one keyword and LinkedIn will display results from all its different segments on one page.
LinkedIn has also made its search smarter by adding a few user-friendly enhancements:
Auto-complete: LinkedIn will automatically suggest search terms depending on what you started to type. These auto-suggestions will improve over time as it learns what you search for.
Suggested searches: Depending on what you are searching for, LinkedIn will suggest example search queries related to your search, and will also provide a preview of the results.
Enhanced advanced search: Along with the new look, advanced search gives you filters such as location, company, school, and more.
Automated alerts: Save your search results, and LinkedIn will track and notify you when new results crop up.
According to LinkedIn, 5.7 billion professionally oriented searches were conducted on the network in the last year alone. The new features are meant to broaden the scope of your search and go under the hood to give you more customized search results. Or as LinkedIn puts it, “LinkedIn’s search efforts are founded on the ability to take into account who you are, who you know, and what your network is doing to help you find what you’re looking for.”
