Heh, I was going to do something like this on my blog, but I’m awful at narrowing lists down and had a list of at least 50 words I was going to define, and then it didn’t happen…

However, going to point out that Open Source Software is often abbreviated OSS, Free as in freedom is often referred to as free/libre, and thus Free-as-in-freedom Open Source Software is often FOSS or FLOSS (for Free/Libre…FL).

Also, I think terminal v. shell needs some definition, but I’m not sure exactly how to define it simply. The window in which the commands are typed is the terminal. But the shell is….I guess you’d say it’s what interprets the commands, and the different shells (Bourne Again, Korn, Z, MirBSD Korn, etc) each have their own idiosyncrasies and special built-in functions.

bit of a missleading title as not all is just linux, i was actually expecting more of linux commands but still a good general guide to what they all mean
