As we advance deeper into the digital era, we increasingly depend on hard drives as the principle storage medium to save all of our precious photos, documents and data.

Just like how insuring a car or a house will help to minimise unforeseen loses, doing everything to keep your data safe is priceless. Enter ioSafe. This week, we will be giving away one 500GB USB ioSafe Solo external hard drive which is fireproof, waterproof, shockproof and crushproof.

Believe you me, you’ll sleep better at night if your data was stored on one of these. I know I would. Find out how you can win this giveaway prize after the jump.

Instead of writing a whole lot about how rugged this hard drive is, it’s probably more convincing to show you. BBC correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones takes the “almost-indestructible” ioSafe for a spin during CES 2010.

Key Features:

  1. Fireproof up to 1550 degs F for 1/2 an hour
  2. Waterproof down to 10 feet for 3 days
  3. 1-year Data Recovery Service: one time only, no questions asked policy
  4. Patented Air Flow Cooling ensures hard drive reliability during normal day to day use
  5. Bolt-down the ioSafe Solo or cable lock for greater security and theft resistance
  6. Three Year standard manufacturer’s warranty for defects

We will be giving away one 500GB USB ioSafe Solo external hard drive with a 3-year warranty and 1-year Data Recovery Service (shipping included). Anyone is eligible for this prize.

To the readers who commented about Twitter/Facebook, we have giveaways lined up every Monday until the end of the year. We invite you to join our social networks in order to participate in the giveaways. We wouldn't want you to miss out.

    • Mike Trudeau
      May 10, 2010 at 11:35 pm

As someone with absolutely no use or need for Twitter or Facebook and their ilk, participation in your giveaways is simply not a compelling enough reason to sign up for either one. (I'm sure I'm not alone in that sentiment.) So I guess winning one of your giveaways is never going to happen for me, and I'm content with that. I will simply continue to enjoy the fine articles, tips and software finds that your site has always provided every day ... unless you force me to join a social network for that too!

        May 11, 2010 at 12:09 pm

I'm sorry you feel that way Mike. We'll be sure to brainstorm and try to come up with other methods of participation but currently, it will be limited to Facebook and Twitter.

Why do all your giveaways require a Facebook/Twitter account?

Facebook is a total privacy nightmare and anyone who uses it is giving their personal info to someone who can not be trusted.

Twitter is just plain annoying. My time is way to valuable to waste on this kind of nonsense.

Other than that, the whole Make Use Of site is great.
    Thanks for the good work.

Thanks Jackson Chung for the chance to win... watching the BBC news was fantastic! My hubby had to do few things on computer last month and I lost ALL my data external drive, which I was using for main personal info -- billings, medical, pictures, documents, things scanned in for safe keeping, etc - maybe error was magnetic -- maybe a wire --? -- we are still working on trying to get it to read to retrieve -- if I had one of these babys (ioSafe Solo ext hard drive) I would be doing more than sleeping better -- I would be loving my husband instead of hounding him to keep trying to save my data!

    • Anonymous

If there was a nuclear bomb close enough to bother it with EMP... you've got bigger problems than a wiped drive.
