Another week of sales, another round-up of savings. This week we’ve got apps for scratching the Halloween zombie itch, something for making music and a high-profile freemium Apple offering.

In other Apple-related news a new iPad was revealed last week, the iPad Air, which is Apple’s thinnest and most powerful tablet yet. It joins a beefed-up Retina iPad Mini and some cylindrical Mac Pros, as well as the news that OS X Mavericks is now a free upgrade. On to the savings!

GarageBand ($4.99, now free with in-app purchases)

Not exactly a sale, but very much worth a mention for those of you who missed it: Apple’s excellent music-making app GarageBand is now free to own with all basic instruments free to play and record across 32 tracks. More instruments are available via the $4.99 in-app purchase. The House of the Dead: Overkill – The Lost Reels ($4.99, now $0.99)

SEGA’s iconic House of the Dead series makes for a remarkably fun tap-fest on touchscreens, and in this version – The Lost Reels – you can undertake even more ultraviolent zombie culling than in the original.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic ($9.99, now $4.99)

Knights of the Old Republic is widely considered one of the best RPGs, and without a doubt one of the best Star Wars games, ever created. Re-live or discover this epic on your iPad for half-price.

Build-a-Lot 3: Passport to Europe iPhone/iPad ($2.99/$4.99, now free)

Both the iPhone and “HD” iPad versions of this long-standing tycoon staple are free for the moment. If you haven’t yet tried them out, there has never been a better time!
