There are thousands of App Store promotions happening right now, but most of them suck. Get some help finding a real deal with this week’s Apps on Sale for iOS.

As ever we’ve got a handful of useful apps as well as some time-wasters in the form of games, including a heart rate monitor, a sound-based survival horror game and one of the platform’s best text editors for writers on the go.

This software requires additional (free) Splashtop software in order to work.

Timeless ($0.99, now free)

Ever find your iPhone’s in-built timer a little bit sub-par? If you need to keep track of multiple timers, set alerts for less than a minute (in seconds) and appreciate svelte design then you should check out Timeless. With colour themes, labels and preset durations you couldn’t really ask for much more from a timer app.

Pathogen ($2.99, now $0.99)

Based on the board game of the same name, Pathogen is a unique strategy game inspired by the way that viruses move through our bodies. Not only is there a huge single player campaign but also local and online multiplayer for up to 4 players, a map editor and a fetching 1980s-inspired art style to enjoy.

Super Hexagon ($2.99, now $0.99)

An addictive retro-inspired arcade game that involves spinning your pointer around and not running into walls. Sounds simple, maybe even pointless, but it’s a actually a lot of fun with epic visuals and a soundtrack to match.

Papa Sangre II ($5.49, now $0.99)

Starring Sean Bean in a narrative role, Papa Sangre II is a survival horror game that is told entirely through sound. Timeless is, apparently, no longer free. Bait and switch or free publicity gimmick.
