The Google Play Store is undeniably the market leader when it comes to Android apps, but that doesn't mean there aren't some great alternatives available.

One of the best alternatives is the Amazon Appstore. Sure, it doesn't have access to Google's own suite of apps, but that's offset by some of its benefits: access to more than $20,000 of free content as well as some apps that aren't even listed on the Google Play Store.

However, the installation process can be a bit complex. You won't find the Amazon Appstore as a downloadable file within the Google Play Store.

Let's take a closer look at how to install the Amazon Appstore on your Android device.

Getting Your Phone Ready

Before you even attempt the installation process, you need to tweak a setting on your device.

Open the Settings menu and head to Security > Unknown Sources. Slide the toggle into the On position.

Next, head to the Amazon Appstore website and click enter your email address in the box provided. Click Send when you're ready.

You'll soon have an email from Amazon in your inbox. Using the Android device you want to install the app, open the email and tap on the link. A new website will load. Tap on Get Amazon Underground. The APK file will download to your device.

Install the Amazon Appstore APK

When the download has finished, go to your Android's Download folder and tap on the APK file. You need to confirm the installation of the app.

Tap Install and wait a few moments for the process to complete. When finished, you'll be able to find the app in your device's app tray.

That's all there is to it. Now you have full access to the Amazon Appstore. Fire up the app and start downloading!
