The look of computer folders is quite boring. Apart from this being visually unappealing, it makes it difficult to quickly recognize the folder you are looking for. Here to help is an app called Icomancer.

add images to folders

Icomancer is a free to use desktop utility for computers running the Windows operating system. The app works well with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Sized at nearly 45 MB, this app installs onto your computer to help you customize the look of your working environment. What you can do with this application is customize the look of your folders. There are a variety of looks that are offered by the application in order to make your folders unique and in order to make them stand out from a clutter of other folders.

Normally, people would spend a considerable amount of time trying to find their required folder if they are viewing a long list of folders. But having the required folder be visually distinct from others can save a lot of time. You can pick simple colors for your folders or visually appealing textures for them. Folders that include special files such as songs, movies, or other multimedia content can be given special looks to make them distinguishable. For example, for the folder of a movie you can use the image of its poster sticking out of the folder.

The free account of the application lets you download free content packs that can add a lot of life to the mundane look of your computer folders. Overall, this app will serve as an excellent customization utility to have for your Windows computer.

    Yes, it is creative, however...

As things stand now, each folder has a name which can be made very descriptive by the user. While creativing visually pleasing forlder icons, Iconmancer does not solve the problem of looking for one folder among hundreds or thousands. Unless you have only a very small number of folders, you cannot remember what folder each texture, design or picture represents. So you are back to square one, using the Find Folder/File utility.
