Over the last week I came across a couple of handy services that let users sell their old or broken iPods, cell phones and other gadgets. These aren’t a marketplace-style website but services that WILL buy your gadgets at a sound price. Since we haven’t seen anything of this kind before, I decided to run a quick comparison and see how they stand against eBay. Actually both of the services were already covered in MakeUseOf Directory, but in case you missed it, here is a quick overview:
(1) BuyMyTronics (previously BuyMyBrokeniPod) – Sell used (and even broken) iPods or iPhones at a competitive price. Regardless of your gadgets model or condition they will take it. Service is simple and straightforward: (1) Enter your gadget’s model and condition, (2) Get an approximate price, (3) Ship it to provided address in Colorado, and (3) Receive funds within 24 hours after it arrives at designated address. More …..
(2) SecondRotation – Same as BuyMyTronics, but also buys Mp3 players (iPod, Creative, Zune, “¦), mobile phones, digital cameras (Canon, Olympus, “¦), camcorders (Sony, Samsung, “¦), GPS devices, and gaming consoles. More ….
To see how they stack up against eBay, I ran a quick test by comparing prices for 4GB iPod Nano, assuming it’s in fairly good condition and still has all original accessories like box, and cables. This should give a basic overview on what you can get with each of these services.

It seems that BuyMyTronics offers a better deal than the other two. If you consider all ebay-related hassles and fees, I think it’s fair to list SecondRotation as a second choice. On the other hand, when it comes to selling all other gadgets besides iPod, SecondRotation is still the place to go to. So, here you go, you got two easy services to cash-in on your old gadgets.
