Add Bing’s beautiful background photos to your Google homepage. If you love the pictures featured on the Bing homepage but despise their search results, this is the Chrome extension you’ve been looking for.
Whatever you think about Bing, Microsoft’s cash-bleeding search engine, you have to admit one thing – the pictures on the homepage are beautiful. Bing’s homepage features a different picture every day, usually something from nature. I’ve never seen a bad one, and always wished Google would offer something similar.
They won’t though. The one time Google tried to add a photo to their homepage, users revolted. Don’t worry, though. If you love Bing’s pictures but love Google’s search results more, you can add them to your Google homepage. A simple extension for Google Chrome makes this not only possible but simple.
Using Bing’s Background Photos In Google
Are you not sure what I’m talking about when I mention Bing’s background photos? Every day Bing features a different photo, typically something from the natural world. It looks something like this:

It’s a clean look made better by great photos. If you like Bing’s search results, the photos are a great perk, but they’re not enough to convince every Google loyalist to make the switch.
Google, of course, offers a famously white homepage. It’s more cluttered than in ages past, but is still quite clean:
Install the creatively named Bing Wallpaper for Google Homepage extension however, and a predictable thing happens – the Bing wallpaper shows up on the Google homepage.

The photo will change every day, just as it does for Bing users. To keep things looking clean the multi-color Google logo is replaced with a black-and-white alternative. It’s a very simple way to add some nature to your digital day.
Do you love a particular wallpaper? You can save it for later. Just click the “Bing” button in your Chrome toolbar and you’ll be taken directly to today’s Bing background.

To download the picture simply right-click it, then click “Save As“.
Are you not satisfied with the low-resolution photos this service provides by default? There are a few high-resolution options from Bing, though they won’t be Bing’s photo of the day:

As you can see, Bing backgrounds isn’t all this plugin can do – you can also use the service to set any Picasa RSS feed to supply your Google homepage. Please share any quality RSS feeds you find for this in the comments below.

About Bing background images –
every morning i am thrilled with the daily Bing background image update (upon rebooting).
I always say – wow, where is that, who took that photo, tell me more about it.
Is there any way to get this information either from Bing, or from some group that has evolved to discuss the same topic ?
thanks, great blog,
jma
Go to Bing.com; there is an “i” with a circle around it at bottom-right. Hover over that and you’ll see who took the picture and what it is. Don’t know of any community around this, sadly.
