Another even easier way to hide your files and folders is using of BDV DataHider: http://www.bdvnotepad.com/datahider_en.htm

It looks like some magic.

I was impressed that TrueCrypt was able to hide my entire Marketing presentation. The presentation included plenty of exhibits and diagrams and was several gigabytes in size. TrueCrypt hid the entire presentation on my desktop. I installed TrueCrypt on my USB flash drive and it encrypted it there as well. It may be a bit excessive to encrypt my marketing presentation for a college course (its not like any one even knows about it) but better safe than sorry.

The folder would still show the size of its contents which would reveal the presence of the file. Also, if the "Show hidden files and folders' option is enabled in folder options, then there is a chance that the option "Hide protected operating system files" is also disabled. For these reasons, this method of hiding files is redundant against most attackers (although only the presence of hidden data is revealed, not the data itself if it is encrypted).

An even better idea is to put a hidden drive within the non-hidden drive, in case A. someone finds it w/ a simple linux live disk and cracks the password (with GPU computing, this could take mere hours) or B. you're for some reason forced to give up your password. it provides plausible deniability (great for those with... less-than-legal intents)

AXcrypt does a similar job of encrypting/decrypting thru a rightclick menu, saves the time to mount the partition.
