If you enter in your email in your CDEX (Which I use) you can look within the large library of songs that they have in seconds for properly produced albums. It then asks you which album you may have in your cd player that matches the time line for the songs, and album length because people have submitted it already. You pick it does, then ID3 tags are done before you rip. I have had a few instances where the album I had wasn't on there (3 or 4) I entered it in, and wham bam submitted it for someone else. There no problem.

How come I open a song in wmp or itunes there is a cover already there but it doesn't show up in tag editor. Like if its already got a default cover already from cache or something it should be in tag editor so that I can see it, I don't want to open up each song to see if it has album cover or not.

When you use a good ripper, it will get track infor from CDDB - but if CDDB doesn't have your snappy new CD in its database, CDex makes it easy to both enter the tags AND dump them into CDDB for everyone. Just be careful to do it well, please.

If you've ripped tracks with no or bad info, MP3 Tag Tools is excellent, open source and comprehensive.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I frequently edit mp3 tags from Windows Explorer. Right click on the mp3 file, go to Properties, Summary and select Advanced. You can edit many of the ID3 tags from this window. You can't add album art, but most other things. You probably know this, but the filename of the track is not the same thing as the title of the track. If you don't have a Title it will use the filename as the title on an mp3 player. If you add a Title using the method above, the mp3 player will show the correct title, rather than the filename, for the song.

hmmm.. are you sure you're using CDEX correctly?

Prior to making the mp3s, you can use the one of the buttons on the right (on the main cdex app) to download album information from some remote server.

All the song details will show up, and subsequently the mp3 files will be generated with tags intact.

Mark,

I'm a very big fan of MP3tagger myself (especially if you have a lot of files that are sorted in folders - it's integration into the windows menu is very helpful) but lately I have found myself using Winamp 5.5 for tagging purposes. If you add your MP3s to the winamp playlist, you can select them all and right-click and send them to Auto-tag which is usually very accurate and will put in information that you may not even know (composer and the like). Give it a look if you are so inclined.
