The Anniversary Update brought a lot of new and interesting features and changes, including a boatload of new tricks and tips you can use. However it also introduced a lot of annoying bugs and issues as well as changes that users didn't like.

For example, the new Action Center icon in the System Tray is quite polarizing: very useful for some with its indicator of how many unread notifications exist, but a waste of space for others.

If you're in the latter group, here's the quick way to disable it for good.

Open the Settings app and navigate to Personalization > Taskbar. Look in the right panel and scroll down to the section called Notification Area, then click on Turn system icons on or off.

In the page that shows up, you'll see various system icons that you can turn on or off to your liking. Find the one called Action Center and switch it to Off. The effect will take place immediately -- no need to log out or reboot your system.
