Regarding Brad’s comment, what happens if you want to use a desktop application? You have to set up thunderbird, outlook Live Mail etc anyway.

What we are essentially doing is downloading your Hotmail emails into gmail via POP (because hotmail does not allow forwarding to other domains then there’s) and setting up Thunderbird to access your emails.

If you ignore the first post, then you could just set up Thunderbird to download Hotmail messages instead of going through Gmail. But I had issues with that.

This is only advice and one way how to do it. It is up to you if you want use this tip or not (or change it slightly to fit your own personal needs)

I agree to Brad .. this is just too much work to access hotmail emails. You can configure your gmail account to receive hotmail in 2 mins.

As long as Postbox can download emails via POP (which it should) then it would work.

I couldn’t find direct instructions for setting up POP but if you follow this guide, it should help you.

This is part 2 of a 2 part post. The main aim of the 2 posts where to easily access your emails online and offline in one simple location. Accessing all your emails online was done in the . I know you can use POP in Thunderbird, but you need online access, then have to log in and log out all the time when accessing your emails. By doing this, you only have to log into Gmail. And if you have multiple Hotmail Accounts, this logging in and out is very annoying. Part 1 describes how to move all your emails to one easy to access location online and part 2 describes how you can download them and send emails from other accounts in Gmail. There are many ways on how you can do this, I do it this way and it works for me, but it may be different for you. If you want, you can always download Hotmail emails in Thunderbird through POP, but I've done it in Gmail.

you guys do know that you can just use hotmails free pop3 servers and forward all of the email to your gmail account. Been using it for the past 9 months of so.. server settings as follows:

POP: pop3.live.com
Port: 995
Check: Always use SSL

That might be easier than setting up Thunderbird..
