I was using Windows XP for a long time. Recently, i installed Solaris 10. But i was unable to run my windows based applications which i have collected over a long period on CDs & DVDs. I thought that all this would now go in vain or i shall have to go back on Windows platform. Now, i was trying to find some solution for this problem over the net. Thanks for this article. As much as I love Linux and Open Source, sometimes you happen to love a Windows application so much that you wonder if only this was available on Linux I would completely switch. It has happened to me in the past when I would switch over into Windows to play Counter Strike and Half Life and some people also wanted Photoshop on Linux because the GIMP requires some adjusting to on the interface.

Just a week ago, WINE has finally released its 1.0 version after about a decade of testing it. A lot of small bugs have been fixed, and many more programs are compatible. Head on over to the App Database and take a look.

I personally love WINE. This program makes me drunk with happiness. (Har har, horrible pun.)
