Browser extensions for social media come in all shapes and sizes. From notification tools to tiny pop-ups, there is one for every taste. Unfortunately, it can be hard to know which ones work well, work pretty well, or do not work at all until you experiment with them.

Getting Started

Apps [No longer available] is a terrific extension for Chrome that puts your favorite social media sites in one spot. It is perfect for easy access to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and more. Just click the button in your toolbar and you will be taken to the screen with icons for all of your networks.

As a bonus you can use the weather, Gmail, and Google Maps apps with simple clicks as well. You can rearrange the icons so that those most important to you are at the top or grouped how you want them. Apps is a nice-to-have extension.

Getting Social

Facebook Messenger is a great extension for managing your Facebook account, so do not let the name fool you. Although you can, of course, access your Facebook Messenger conversations, you can see your entire account.

Check your News Feed, review Friend Requests, look at your Notifications, and search. You can also post, check in, and add photos. So, the Facebook Messenger extension for Chrome does pretty much everything you would need to do on Facebook.

Ever wonder how much time you spend on Facebook? Well, there is an extension for that and it is called Facebook Timer [No longer available] It is the simplest of tools, but gets the job done.

When you are actively visiting Facebook, the timer will begin. Click the Facebook Timer button at any time to see how long you have been on Facebook. So, if you promised yourself that you would only spend one hour on that attention-grabbing social network, this is one way to keep your promise.

Easy Twitter is a handy extension that allows you to manage your account easily with its own pop-up. Check out your Home, Mentions, what is Trending, and your own tweets on your profile.

Post a tweet with the click of a button or go directly to the Twitter site itself. Easy Twitter really makes manage your account and keeping up with it easy.

If you are one of those people who likes to see a notification that you can respond to quickly for Twitter, then Silver Bird Plus is the extension for you. You will see your notification count as a badge icon and it is completely customizable.

Pick the types and style of notifications and the icon color for each one. When you click the button you can see your Twitter Home, Mentions, Favorites, and Direct Messages. Compose a tweet and mark all of your items as read too. Silver Bird Plus [No longer available] is a really convenient Twitter extension for Chrome.

Instagram Web provides a snappy way to keep up with your Instagram feed and account in a tiny window. Like, comment, and share as you browse your feed. Edit your profile right within the extension’s window.

This extension is free, but has a Premium version available for $0.99 if you would like to be able to download photos and videos in high-resolution. However, the Instagram Web extension is useful enough on its own.

If you love Pinterest and pin photos often, the Pin It Button extension is a must-have. When you are ready to pin a photo, click the button and then choose from the various photos on the page.

Select your choice and then just pick your Pinterest Board. You can also select to post to Facebook and Twitter at the same time if your accounts are connected.

An added feature of the extension is that it can hover the Pin It Button over images when you are on a website, making it even easier to share those images. This setting can also be disabled in the options if you do not like it. There is no better extension for sharing on Pinterest than the Pin It Button.

Apps for Google is just like those above where a small window pops open to display your Google Plus account. Create a post, add a photo, comment, share, and like posts quickly and easily.

You can also view your circles and notifications. As a matter of face, the main navigation mimics that of the Google Plus site, allowing you to do whatever you need for your account. Apps for Google is a truly convenient extension for managing your Google Plus account.

Getting logged out

Logout 4 All is one of those extensions you need after you are finished with all of your social networking. The handy tool lets you log out of Gmail, Facebook, Yahoo, Twitter, and others with the click of the button.

The icon resembles a power icon in red, making it easy to recognize in a full toolbar with just a glance. You can also adjust the settings to remove your history, cache, and download history for an hour, day, week, or month. So, when you are finished liking, commenting, sharing, tweeting, or anything else, just click the Logout 4 All button to sign out of those websites.
