Google Search Results Are Now Cleaner & Simpler To Read [Updates]

Google is bringing a cleaner look to search on desktops, with a new design for its main results page. If you’ve been using Google on your mobile or tablet, you’ll recognize the new design immediately: the familiar left-hand menu has now disappeared, and replaced with a new top menu, exactly like the one from Google’s mobile interface. The new interface is currently available only on Google.com, and will roll out to other domains at a later time.

The new menu lets you browse between Web results, images, maps, shopping and news, with other options found under the “More” menu. If you’re looking for search tools such as time filtering and other filters, these are now found under the “Search tools” button.

The purpose of the new design is to provide “more breathing room, and more focus on the answers you’re looking for”. As you can see, this is indeed the case, with the whole list of results moved slightly to the left, making the whole page look much less cluttered.

The new design was first launched on tablets last year, and on mobile phones a few weeks ago. With its launch on desktops, Google is working on creating a more consistent look and feel to their search page, no matter which device and which screen size you’re using.

What do you think of the new Google Search design?

Isn’t custom backgrounds make your page loads slower?

Maybe I just don’t like change, but I don’t like the different layout. Sure, it’s a bit cleaner, but it seems less functional. I would rather have the search options on the left, like before. It would be cool if they had the search options scroll down with you (like MakeUseOf’s top bar). I know people usually don’t look past the first couple of results, but for all the times that you do, and want to use the search options, then it’s a bit annoying to scroll to the top.

If you’re using any domain other than google.com, you won’t be seeing it yet. It’s only on the US version of Google.

It’s decoration seems to be the same as youtube but I like there are tabs for search methods. However I think it would be better if they can display more information about the website (popular ones) and able to sum the content of it, so readers could just digest what it have or potentially have for its solutions.

It’ll take some time to get used to the new layout, but it’s much cleaner. As long as they keep the Google Doodle at the left it’s okayBy the way, whoever in charge of comment in MUO, my connection is a bit glitchy so I apologize if I happen to be double posting as I found in other site yesterday. You can remove the duplicate comments and substract my points.

It’s a horrible change that requires considerably more clicking to get things done and wastes space by having stuff at the top instead of the side, unless your monitor is sideways.
