Google is constantly working to improve their search results to help you better find what you are looking for, and now they have rolled out a simple, yet elegant improvement to their related search results for images. Related search results are incredibly useful for starting with a broad term and narrowing it down to find more specific items related to it. As an example, Google shows a search for images of Greece on their blog. If you search for “Greece”, Google would also recommend “Santorini Greece”, for example, and you could use the related search to see images of there as well.
Related search has been around for a long time, but this update improves the functionality of it a great deal. Now, if you mouse over the related search suggestions, it will pop out a bar, showing you some images that are included in that related search. So if you searched for “UFC”, Google might suggest “UFC logo”, and by mousing over that suggestion, you can see some examples of images contained in the “UFC logo” search.
If you choose to click through on the “UFC logo” search, you would then get even more suggested results, and could mouse over those to continue further. It is a subtle improvement, but it most certainly makes finding images easier, and more elegant.
