Google+ has another brand new feature and this time it is heavily emphasizing matters of a local nature. The new feature is aptly named Google+ Local. It is designed to help you find and share the things you enjoy in your local area. It integrates Zagat ratings, so you can use it to find the best restaurants and other cool places around you.
You will find the new Google+ Local section on the left side of Google+. You can use it to search or browse places in your area. When you find a place that interests you, simply click it and you will be taken to a Google+ page that features Zagat scores, reviews from people you know, photos, and general information such as hours and location.
Not only is this feature implemented into Google+ directly, it is also available in Google Maps. If you are looking for a place, the same useful information you will find on the Google+ page will be there as well. It’s also integrated with Maps on Android, and will be on iOS soon.
If none of your friends has recommended anything, do not fear, because most places have plenty of reviews from other Google users who you do not know. Of course, it is preferable to receive your recommendations from friends, but it can still give you a good idea if a place is worth your time.
Does adding more local information make Google+ a more compelling service for you? Let us know in the comments!
