Google have recently been rolling out a new design for Google Calendar and Gmail, sporting a minimalist theme. It's a huge step forward for Google, having previously... Read More . The Google+ design is reported by Techcrunch to have been created by original Macintosh designer, Andy Hertzfeld.

The Gmail blog says that this is “part of a Google-wide effort to bring you an experience that’s more focused, elastic, and effortless across all of our products” and that changes are intentionally being rolled out slowly in order to incorporate user feedback on the design.

Users have the option to use the new look or revert to the classic look (by clicking on the settings icon and choosing “Use Classic Look“).

For Gmail users, the new look can be enabled by using the “Preview” or “Preview (Dense)” theme from the themes tab in Gmail settings.

The new looks are a very minimalist design, to match with Google+, featuring plenty of whitespace and simple Google colours.

    I agree, it takes up too much space. It looks fine on my 1080p monitor at home, but at work I have to use either 1440x900 or 1024x768 depending on the station, and there's less info on the screen.

    Looks like shit. Google keeps changing things and not for the better IMO. Seems like everyday there is some other change they make and it is annoying because it seems to be change made for the sake of change not because it improves anything.  I wish they would stop screwing around with things. All this change seems to be to satisfy all the punks with ADD out there who get bored after 3 seconds.

    I don't like it. While it's definitely much cleaner, it takes up too much space. Not good for my laptop monitor...

    i'm feeling it. i have always said it looked super bland. i actually like it now. It's now time for a GMAIL app overhaul.
