Thanks for the feedback, I think you got pretty good point here.

<em>"almost all the GOTD shareware offerings have freeware alternatives that are just as good or better."</em>.

Totally Agree

I've been following the GOTD site for a few months now. While the concept seems to be a great idea and a real win-win, the implementation leaves a lot to be desired.

First, almost all the GOTD shareware offerings have freeware alternatives that are just as good or better.

Second, many of the offered packages were built by the vendor especially for GOTD (e.g., in order to allow them to be installed only during the one-day window with a limited license that can't be used later for technical support). GOTD users often encounter technical issues while installing these custom builds or later when the program tries to update itself to a newer version (future versions are not free, of course).

And last, while a possible gem can be found on GOTD once every few weeks, most of the programs offered on GOTD just suck. They often lack proper documentation, some are unstable, some don't even support the latest operating systems, and since they are offered under the GOTD license, you can't get any technical support for any of the above.

In summary, before installing a GOTD release, think twice if you really need the software, and do your research to make sure you can't just use an alternative that's free 24/7, not just for one day, and has an active community that can help you in case of problems.

Yes, most of their programs are shareware but each newly added program is absolutely free for the first 24 hours.
