I haven't given Friend Connect a try yet. I'm still waiting to see if it will be worth the effort compared to Facebook and other social media alternatives. But I did update my Google Profile and got several good tips about that from your article. So thanks! :-)

Howdy. I am wondering why, when I click on the photo of a friend who has left a comment on my Wall gadget, a webpage opens to http://kaze.goldencenter.org/canvas.html that just says the name of my blog and gives an option to go back.

I have isolated this part of the code, but I really have no idea what link to put there. How do I link their photo to their profile or whatever, as in the member gadget. Or rather, what is the purpose of this canvas link?

Thanks!

Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you.

Taking a closer look at Google Profiles, it seems that the profiles page is heavily biased towards either Picasa or Flickr. If you want to go with another photo source, it seems to want a URL with a "feed" (I can only assume from that that it means a RSS feed).

So unless your website photo gallery has its own RSS feed, I doubt Google Profiles will support it right now.

You need to add two files to your site. Basically you have to add two HTML files to your domain by uploading them by FTP. They will not visibly appear on your site to your visitors but instead operate in the background to make Friend Connect work.

So when you start the Friend Connect process, Google will prepare the files for you and then ask you to upload them to your site. The files are small and very easy to put on your domain.

When the files have been uploaded and Google verifies they are there and working properly, then you can copy/paste the template onto your webpage. That's you done.

I have my own website with a limit of 5 pages. All pages are full and from how I read Friend Connect instructions, I need to add 2 pages to use it. Am I reading this correctly? If there is any advice you can give me, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have my own website photo gallery using html photo scripts I wrote myself (I dont use Pikasa or Flickr). How do I import in images from my own website's custom galleries into Google? I see the option in Google Profiles for custom images. But there isn't any detailed information on how to import photos from your own website. Can we link an image on our sites to Google by typing in a URI to the photo? - thanks

well putting the Friendfeed URL in doesn't ALWAYS automatically pull everything in. Sometimes you strike lucky and sometimes you don't. So if you don't see all your URL's appearing, you might have to start typing some of them in manually and see if that kick-starts Google into "auto-detecting" some more of them. Sometimes you just need to give the big G a bit of a push to wake itself up.

Actually, I like the fact that Facebook is walled in. It gives me some privacy.

The things I want to do in public are done outside Facebook anyway (eg. Friendfeed).

Thanks for the tips. It's a bit slow with me and not automatically importing all the stuff from Friendfeed, but I've experienced a slow Google here in Turkey, so maybe that's it.
