It’s been four years since Facebook began adding recommended links alongside articles your friends are sharing. Most other social networks haven’t really followed suit in the same way, but the latest version of Chrome for Android uses the new tab to recommend suggested articles. If you’re one of the many people who is unhappy with the change, you’ll be happy to know there’s a fix.

The suggested articles have taken the place of bookmarks and recent tabs, and to get them back, you’re going to have to access two hidden menus in Chrome, as pointed out by an Android Police reader.

For the first menu, paste the following into your Chrome browser:

chrome://flags/#enable-ntp-popular-sites

Where it says show popular sites on the New Tab page select Disabled from the drop-down menu. The second menu can be accessed by pasting the following into your Chrome browser:

chrome://flags/#enable-ntp-snippets

Here you’ll want to find Show content snippets on the New Tab page and select Disabled from the menu. The settings you need to adjust will be conveniently highlighted in yellow.

You will have to relaunch Chrome for the changes to take effect. Also, unless you’re familiar with the hidden menus, you won’t want to change any of the other settings.

Are you going to disable the new Chrome feature or leave it as is? Let us know why in the comments.

    I didn't ask for it, I don't want it.
