Lenovo’s IdeaTab MIIX2-8 tablet offers the complete version of Windows 8.1, and not the RT edition. It also includes a relatively modern version of the Atom CPU, the Z3740. It offers a 64GB SSD, 2GB of memory and around 8 hours of battery life. As far as Windows tablets are concerned, the MIIX line of tablets offers good value.

Apple is discounting some of their refurbished 2012 and 2013 MacBook Air laptios. The prices range from $749 to $1,569. The Ivy Bridge (2012) laptops are marked down by up to 29% off and the Haswell models have a blanket 15% off. We’ve written about the differences between Haswell and Ivy Bridge – the Haswell editions offer the best deal, though, so pick wisely.
Another point to note is that all refurbished Apple products include a full, year-long warranty. Keep in mind that there are big differences between the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.
This week, we’ve got an AMD FX CPU, an ASUS monitor and several solid state drives at discounted prices!
AMD FX-8320 Black Edition Eight Core CPU for Socket AM3+
- Price: $159.99; compare to $199.99 MSRP
- Retailer: Amazon
While the AM3+ socket doesn’t have much life left, $159.99 for FX-8320 is a good deal. It offers extremely good performance in multithreaded applications, such as Adobe Premiere CS6. It runs at 3.4 to 4.0 GHz, although falls behind Intel’s offering in single threaded performance.
The Black Edition of CPU from AMD offers an unlocked multiplier, meaning it can be overclocked.
- Price: $134.99 after $20 MIR; compare to $229.99

This monitor from ASUS offers HDMI/MHL, D-Sub input, built-in speakers and an 80,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Online reviews on Newegg show it rating 4/5 stars. Overall, this is about as cheap as it gets for a 23.8-inch monitor.
The PNY XLR8 solid state drive (what’s an SSD?) offers good performance, particularly for a budget drive. From the various reviews I’ve seen, it offers fantastic value. Its current per-gigabyte pricing is the best I’ve seen this week at around 42 cents-per-gigabyte. It also offers AES-128 encryption, making it one of the few budget SSD drives to support such a feature.
Tiger Direct sells the same model, for $74.99, however, it comes with a $70 rebate.
- Cooler Master Elite 120 Mini-ITX Case — $29.99 after a $10 MIR via Newegg
- Crucial M500 250GB mSATA SSD — $109.99 via Amazon
- Seagate 600 480GB SSD — $219.99 via Tiger Direct
- ECS Intel Mini-ITX Motherboard-CPU Combo — $31.99 after $20 MIR via Newegg
My favorite deals this week are all system components. I didn’t see that many good deals in other areas, outside of Apple products. On the positive side, SSD prices continue to tumble. While the PNY XLR8 offers a low-cost drive with quality internal components, a lot of other drives remain competitive in pricing-per-gigabyte.
That’s it for this week folks! Check back next week for the same great deals!
