Free Games for PS Plus & Xbox Live in October 2017

As we enter the last quarter of the year, it’s time for October’s batch of free video games. PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold members can download some new games to their systems — here’s what’s available this month.

PlayStation Plus

PS4 player have a great month ahead of them. First up is the critically-acclaimed Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain, an action, open-ended stealth game. It’s creator Hideo Kojima’s last outing in the Metal Gear franchise.

The other PS4 title is Amnesia: Collection, containing both Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. These ultra-scary games will have you running in fear — just in time for Halloween!

On PS3, you can download Monster Jam Battlegrounds, a barebones monster truck stadium experience. Also on PS3 is Hustle Kings, a billiards game that’s also compatible with the PlayStation Move motion controller.

Finally, those with a PS Vita receive Hue, a puzzle platformer where you change the world’s background color to progress. You’ll also get Sky Force Anniversary, a vertically-scrolling 2D shooter. Both Vita games support Cross Buy for PS4, and Sky Force is also available on PS3.

Don’t forget that as a member, you can also get the mobile-controlled That’s You! free until October 24, and the PS VR game RIGS Mechanized Combat League free until November 7.

Xbox Live

Xbox One owners, you’ll receive Gone Home: Console Edition, an exploration game where you must explore your house to find out where your family went. Depending on your taste, you’ll either love this narrative-heavy game or deride is as a “walking simulator.”

Also free is The Turing Test, a first-person puzzle game.

The free Xbox 360 titles are Rayman 3 HD and Medal of Honor Airborne. Rayman 3 is the last 3D entry in the series takes a light-hearted spin on platforming. Airborne is a World War II shooter that’s notable for its open level design in the campaign.

Don’t forget that Xbox One owners can also enjoy the Xbox 360 titles through backwards compatibility.
